Flippa Competitor

I am looking into developing a site that would "eventually/potentially" compete with Flippa.

Short term plan is to launch and do my best, see how it goes. I have a marketing plan, the development is done, the design will be done soon. But my main concern is about marketing plan: getting buyers is hard. Any suggestions?

Is this even a good idea? I am only doubting my idea due to negativity I got around me, but I want to hear from you guys. My marketing plan to be honest right now is not very strong.

But the goal was to focus on developing a good product and then focus on marketing. I'd like input on all aspects of this idea please.

I agree, and the goal is not to try and compete with them. The short term plan is to slowly build a quality userbase, buyers and sellers, and provide an alternative in the market.

May be you can start with free listing and no/little sales commission
That might attract some sellers and You should do advertising campaign to attract buyers

Flippa is best in todays website showcase marketplace. so, It would be a great idea if you could somehow manage to compete them which I' sure would involve lot of hassles in terms of money and advertizing.
But since you;ve already taken initiative to do so, so, all I can say to you is good luck beating them.

Impossible is nothing if you have intense passion towards your goals. :thumb:

do you mean massively different than Flippa in one aspect? Could it be fees structure?

Gotta agree, Flippa holds too much of the market, will be near impossible for the small guy to compete. Only some big dogs, say if Google decided to do it would have a chance.

Its totally an wrong Idea because you can't compete such a big thing or you have some millions to advertise it as hell.

Unless you have a big budget for adwords this would die... If you can do what some directories do like buying adwords clicks then there is a chance people would list on your directory...

Its all about the best traffic thats all. If you have better traffic than flippa why the hell not!

Google wouldn't have a chance.





They would swallow Flippa whole in a split second. One moment their there, the next they are substitute to Google.

If Google are really interested in the website flipping market, here is what will happen Google would either drop too much buyout cash on the table for the owners to resist and/or if they refuse, swallow them whole by launching their own and sending an unlimited amount of clicks to it through adwords.

The same would be the case for Microsoft but not as quick.

Just clearing that up.

Do you have a large team?
Do you have a budget of $xxx,xxx ?
Do you have a very good marketing plan?
Do you have a plan for everything?

If not you can't compete.

Flippa is too big to compete with unless you have a big budget, an amazing marketing plan, and much more.
Flippa is getting bigger and bigger, they are trusted,and really do take care of their users, and they have everyone's trust.


So if you don't have the above, don't waste your time... I don't mean to be rude or saying you are nothing, but they are huge... will take years and years to beat them with all the required stuff , budget of $xxx,xxx etc.



Think of a unique idea like Fiverr rather than trying to compete.

Very bad idea imho, many would dislike this, me too personally, it is sometimes hard to find time , and it is also the buyers responsibility to make sure the info is real, ask for teamviewer.

And imagine few staff members trying to check screens of thousands of people....
