This is how I made $5k+ in Holidays

Instead of sending an email explaining how you can no longer keep the site running due to cost, make them realize that they will be missing out if they don't join and therefore giving their competitors an edge.

I agree, but digress. There is a reason people are so willing to help "the little, non-profit" guy, over the other 8 calls they got that day (never think you are the only one).

I think that the stats speak to the fact that it worked well FOR HIM.

Everybody is different.

When everyone else was cursing the economy while telling to sell to plumbers, construction workers, etc.. in my golf course advertising job. I made a killing by calling non profits and churches. They used to make fun of me in the office, while I was on break (a no-break till quota office).

It was always nice to sit in an office, waiting for call backs from preachers who wouldn't curse you out like the plumber and didn't get hounded to death about advertising. It was also nice to be able to say "of course you won't get any new customers, this is a public awareness placement, and that is why I called you". Try that with a construction worker who just laid of 1/2 of his crews.

I would even go as far to say that at public courses, "it helps us stay open", and go on as it was more of a public support, and not an AD.

Trying to "not be selling" is often one of the best Internet pitches.

I am merely playing devil's advocate on this one. I do agree with the standard of what you advise, but have experienced proof that the OP is on firm ground to leave as is, almost $6k worth. ;)

^^Thanks for the kind words...I am again working on a similar plan, busy is keyword research. If it gets success,I'll post the experience.

wow.. this method is very cool.. I might try this in a couple of days.. thanks dude..

Good luck..make sure your planning and execution is equally good.

Nice strategy mate. One and the only offline success story i heard from India :D

Collecting recurring income is going to be a major hazzle i think.Since you can't use paypal subscription (i don't know if CC allows you to collect subscription revenue)

Else you have to go back to that vacation place with bunch of thugs and argue for money :D

Getting web design clients for 100$ is a major hurdle in some cases they start saying like my cousin is a computer student let me ask him :D

if you perfect this model, you can start emailing clients in the west and show your model website and promise results or whatever.

Yeah I am working on these things now, always look to scale up things ;) PP is out of the equation in this case...but no need to collect it manually,I have the Emails and numbers...will remind them 7 days before expiry of subscription and will follow the same method to collect the charge :)

Update-Listed 23 more hotels,all subscribed as well :)

few more doubts bro!

is there any way to figure out people actually book rooms in hotels from your site? If so you can charge more like CPA(% of commission for getting leads for hotels) :D

May be an option for people to book rooms through your website.Obviously you need some kind of tracking like how many visitors actually booked rooms in hotels after visitng your website...

or you can create a big website and rank for lot of keywords like "kashmir tourism","kashmir ski resort","kashmir 4 star hotels","Kashmir bikes for rent for tourists","kashmir female escorts" and link to all sort of services :D

If you allow booking through your site, there is a lot of competition!First, you are not reliable! There are many well known booking sites, they are trusted and hence everyone prefer that. Not sure how many will book it from an unknown site.
The idea of CPA is good, requires some work, will figure out.But you CAN'T trace those who booked rooms after visiting your site. There are two ways now-

1.Allow booking from your site.
2.Give a discount coupon code to every visitor, say coupon is "YOUR WEBSITE".Have a pact with hotels, that you will lower the listing/subscription charges (optional) if they offer x% discount to the people who use your coupon and y% commission to you.x+y should be realistic so that they agree.

Just testing my business skills learnt from nowhere ;)

Thanks for sharing your method...I really appreciate it.

Great Method. Simply marvelous, will try this out but not right now.

how many competitors do you had their?

i wanted to try "restaurantCITYNAME.de" cause im in germany and here are not that many hotels. 5.400 monthly searches, google adwords tells me low enemys but when i do search it says 6.230.000 results.
is that too much? never tried seo yet.. wanted to do onpageseo with allinone seo package for wordpress and than lowly build backlinks.

do you think there is a chance?

on the first page are only yellowpages etc.

Nice story Jeeves. I really do hope it works out for you.
However, this method is outdated in Europe. Especially for the travel industry.
I'm pretty sure it's the same in the US.

These tactics and strategies were very profitable in the 2004-6.
Now hotels prefer sales instead of advertising. They don't mind paying the commission because in most of the cases they pay to someone anyways.

Now about the coupon %discount idea.
When a hotel or a similar establishment signs an agreement with let's say booking,
the hotel is bound to offer the lowest price possible to the middleman, and it is a breach of contract if the hotel gives lower price to another competitor.
For direct sales the hotel can charge whatever it feels is right.

The best option is an affiliate program through one of the big guys but it's a very tough game.

How do I know all that? I have a huge multilingual non-black hat travel site with tons of not only unique but useful content. Even with that it is a struggle.

Good luck to everyone!

I like this idea! I've found a place near me that only gets 900 searches a month for 'hotels in xxxx), but the competition is listed as 'high'. Do you think it's still worthing hitting it up with smaller amounts of traffic like this in a competitive market? Obviously if it was an adsense project, no, but this is a little different.

Depends on the competition,,,,don't go with adword's competition...use traffic travis or better to use Market Samurai...you will get an EXACT idea of how hard or easy the competition is..and eventually you'll make up a plan in your mind.Good luck.

Update-Approached more hotels and had decent collections...but now running out of data :D I mean targets..may be its time to search for a new destination...I'm on page 2 now.. :(

I found some one bought the domains hotelsinthiscity.com near my area and I wonder if I buy the .net will I get the same result there is 65,300 searches for that key word I am thinking on trying out something similar and see if there is something that is worth marketing, since I can do the google places at the same time just need to get in with the managers.
