First time transferring a Domain to another registrar

I have my Main domain name registered with Godaddy and the rest of my domains are registered with Namecheap. My hosting is at Bluehost. If I want to transfer my Godaddy domain to namecheap will this affect anything on my sites? ie. will sites go down during the transfer? will i lose anything if the nameservers become unassigned temporarily? Are e-mails effected? What can I expect and how can I transfer to them without any risk of losing anything? Thanks.

Transfers are always a bit tricky, registars dislike losing names, but here's a few ways to make it smoother:
1 - contact namecheap ahead of time - they should be happy to help you get the name transferred smoothly - ask them if they have a guide to minimizing downtime
2 - same thing with your host - ask for advice about minimizing downtime
