Ron Paul always wins these things and the news never covers it, they always just ignore Ron Paul. MSNBC did a similar poll 4 years ago after the first big presidential debate and Ron Paul won by a huge margin like this and they just brushed it off and actually kind of laughed it off.

Well if they show that to the public the sheeps going with herd might vote "wrong" :)

Ron Paul has a big online fan base, these polls hit page 1 of Digg, etc.

They shouldn't even put them up because they don't come close to a picture of actual voters (especially since he gets all kinds of Dems chiming in for him and they're not going to have anything to do with the primary).

That being said I am a fan of small govt!

The problem with Ron Paul is he has some really great points on things like the federal reserve and such (that the establishment doesn't want to hear) but he goes a bit off the reservation with some of his other views. He's a bit too isolationist for my taste but I wish he was in charge of taking down some of the quasi government industries in the US.

Did yesterdays straw poll include "actual voters?"

Ron Paul came in second place, 152 votes behind Michelle Bachmann (Less than a 1% margin).

How much do the results of polls have on perspective voters? Lets say someone was running for a state race and they hired a Black Hatter to rig the results of the poll carried out by some of the local news media to go 75% in there favor. Would it help them get more votes?

Lets keep this about the marketing aspects of elections not the political part,or one of the mods will delete or close this thread.:(

He's also a mason for what it's worth. High ranking I believe. Too many
masons in politics for all of them to be dominant. :p

Hmmm...I don't follow you. I'm taking it you're an atheist then?

Yeah I am. I have no problem with peoples faiths but all these people following him assume he's this great logical idealist who is going to change the world!

Sorry but, logical and believing in invisible people in the sky doesn't sit well with me...

When ron paul loses the fixed elections, all his passive aggressive fans are going to go "aawwww we were so close, we'll get them next time" changing nothing.

Yes, however Romney & Huntsman both skipped Iowa and at the same time Perry just announced he's going to run.

Anyways I like Paul very much and I am a Republican/conservative I'm just saying we saw the same thing during the last race and by the end he didn't stand a shot in hell. And certainly the poll this thread is about where he got 25K of 39K votes in not an accurate picture.

I disagree. He would change the world economically.

The federal reserve lowers interest rates in economic crisis, and prints more money..which created inflation and devalues the United States dollar. If you don't believe me, what did the fed just do recently? Printed more money and lowered interests rates.

The only candidate who is saying we need to liquidize the bad debt and allow the bankruptcies to happen is Ron Paul. How do you fix the economy if you're not going to liquidize the debt? It can't happen, and it won't happen.

Why is religion part of the debate? He doesn't force his believes on anyone.

Going back to yesterdays Ames Poll, that was a 'real election', and Ron Paul was technicly statistically tied for first with Michele Bachmann (Considering Bachmann won by 152 votes or less than 1% margin). So this insinutation that Ron Paul cannot win actual offline elections was just proven wrong just yesterday. Keep drinking the medias coolaid.

"Changing nothing"...he's already completly changed the Republican party. In 2008, nobody agreed with Paul about spending, the wars, foreign policy, monetary policy, the federal reserve...and now that's what most of the candidates are preaching.

Romney and Huntsman name's were still on the ballots, and the surprising part is Rick Perry's name wasn't, and he still received more right-in votes than Romney and Hunstman. That should speak for itself. I think Perry will be the biggest GOP contender, but his past will catch up to him, and the American people will realize he is just a "fake conservative."

All I ask for as a Ron Paul supporter, is that the main stream media stop writing Ron Paul off. The biggest story yesterday was how Michelle Bachmann won, Tim Pawlenty came in third, how Rick Santorum came in fourth, and how Rick Perry got more right-in votes than Romney got votes....where's Ron Paul in the discussion? This isn't anything new, yet liberals and conservatives alike continue to make fun of Ron Paul, his supporters..and stating he has no chance. Yet time and time again, he proves them wrong.

I have no interest in this topic really, being Scottish myself.

However I did take Geography many moons ago. Now whilst I was pretty uninterested in it I did look at that map.

Has New York Moved?.

And going out on a limb here isn't St. Louis further South?

If I'm wrong don't worry about it.

Its half one here in the morning and I have just finished my 10th can of Stella Artois. (strong Beer)

Night folks lol

They didn't move, President Obama had the names changed, after the lizard people made him do it.

that map doesn't make sense.., it shows people voting in the poll who are in the ocean, the great lakes, canada, mexico.. the first 2 aren't likely, the last 2 would have been removed from the numbers..

I think the map is bogus..

The fact of the matter is that polls like this are worthless, especially in relation to Ron Paul. He has a small but extremely dedicated group of followers that will flood any poll like this rendering it useless.

How easy would it be for any one of us to flood this poll with votes for him? Would take me all of about 1-2 minutes to write a bot to do it. I mean what is there to it, open page, click button, clear cookies, change ip, repeat.

That is why when you do a poll like this where anyone can vote in it he wins or does well, but when you do a poll of the general electorate he is usually around 10% (this time around).

it has nothing to do with a small amount of people flooding elections, it's the fact that the majority of people are for ron paul and it's being covered up because fox doesn't support his views.

It has everything to do with a small amount of people flooding a poll. What is the value of displaying a poll like that on any site when you know it to be misleading. Even if those votes where all legit, which I think is highly unlikely, what is the value of it knowing full well that they do not represent an accurate picture of who people thought won the debate?

Personally I agree with some of his views especially on economics, but as someone who pays close attention to politics I also know how deceptive the results of that poll are and would have taken it off my website as well.

While I agree w/ that to an extent, you can't rig all polling. And frankly, what does it matter if a huge percentage of his supporters are online (or on Digg)? Support is support, just means he has supporters that are committed to a cause more than the other candidates.

Ron Paul just came in 2nd in the Iowa Straw poll, which while not being statistically significant, has historically been a precursory indicator of the Republican nominee. A lot of media coverage has gone out of their way to not even mention the fact that he came in 2nd (i.e., headlines like "Bachman wins the Iowa poll, Pawlenty comes in third"). The media has always had a blackout to anti-establishment candidates. And by anti-establishment, I mean non-corporate shills.

Which of his policy positions are isolationist? You know the difference between isolationism and interventionism right? One is economic, the other geopolitically-and militaristically-centric. He definitely is not an isolationist.

Paul only got 9% of the straw poll votes in Iowa in 2007, up to 28% this year, statistically tied for first. This is nothing like 2008.

Regarding the map color shading, a huge % of the population is coastal (for obvious reasons). You can see some shading outside of the state lines (even some purple), which I would assume is to indicate coastal vote statistics.
