I recently purchased a DSLR, I'm already quite adept at taking photo's and was wondering if anyone could shed some light on the best way to make money from photo's online. I'm thinking of websites like istock, however I imagine competition is fierce?

Any kind of ideas would be awesome!

Making money with photography is not easy especially since the advent of digital cameras going mainstream.

You need to take photos of things people want: themselves.

They like to LOOK at travel photos and creative HDR's, but do they buy? Yes, but only a small percent of people buy... My 15+ years of experience would tell you to do it b/c u love it and money can be made, but it'll come directly from a client such as a bride or portrait sitting fee, concert photo gig.
You can also try to offer educational tips and try for adsense clicks, but that's not all that easy nor profitable.

Wedding photography pays well, but it's also a bit saturated. For now, I'd suggest enjoying photography and if you can make some money along the way - then great.

Selling photos is not easy, but you can certainly try on places like istockphoto can work if your image is pertinent and amazing.
best o luck!

Yeah this is my main aim, so I will just try out some of my shots on these sites and see how they fare.

I making a living thanks to iStock. But yes, if you plan to make money in it and the only reason is because you have a new camera, you will lose your time.

You need more than equipment to earn good money. Try to improve your skills, read about it and understand that if you want to make a living of it and not just pocket money, you need to invest years.
