Ranked number one on google, but still not getting much traffic

I'm pretty sure people are not looking for your targeted keywords. Try other niche that are related to what your aiming for, you can even use Google keyword external tool to find different phrases you might want to use.

You need to choose keywords that are searched for often on Google.

You can use the free keyword tool in Google AdWords (create a free account just so you can use their keyword tool).

Or, if you really want to get professional, try a tool like MarketSamurai...the folks at MarketSamurai have some killer video tutorials showing how to do keyword research too, just try to find their blog and search for them.

Hi,

You will hear different answers on this but it will all depend on what you are targeting. For example, in the case of adsense publishers, one will even go for 500 exact searches if the CPC is >10.

However, to avoid being disappointed, why don't you try to rank for several keywords in one site? that way you increase the chance of getting traffic.

Yes, CPC=cost per click. You can find it using the image show in this thread

however, you must be logged in the adwords account to see the CPC option.

I have been working day and night on three sites with long tail keywords and have gotten one of them to be ranked number one two and three on google but i am still not getting much traffic. What are some things i could do to increase traffic?

Since they are long tail keywords, very few people may be using it exactly as it is while performing searches in search engines. Do work on few short tail which are more competitive and used more frequently for searching the prior services.

Not necessarily, some longtail keywords have decent amount of exact searches per month.

Google keyword tool is not at all accurate in some instances. When using the exact matches count for long tail keywords, recheck the count by truncating a word from the long tail keywords to see if the count has any changes.

From experience, I got caught once by google keyword tool for a long tail exact match keyword phrase of around 30k exact matches. After building it up and ranking it to page 1, I found out that no traffic comes in. It was after I re-checked the tool and found that by truncating the keywords, the exact matches count is the SAME!

I'm in the same boat as OP, lol. So if exact keywords are showing low competition on Google Adwords and 5-10k local searches per month and STILl no traffic, what's the next best tool for finding more accurate information? I know there's a thread on keyword search with images, but is that the most accurate and most efficient way of finding good keywords?

The best tool is actually do it yourself. The only way around it is to rank for more than one keyword so that you don't end up with the surprises of ranking on the top and then receive no traffic using only one keyword.
