Using Macbooks or PCs?

Im thinking of buy a mac to do all the stuff i would for IM/AM. Is there any drawbacks? Like most of the programs to download...im sure some of them dont have Mac versions...

what do?

I heard about putting windows on it, but is it that easy to switch?

Macbook for the win! You can use windows on Macbook so yeah

PC is better more power for your money.

I have a macbook pro but ended up getting a desktop PC just for IM tools. Don't like the way Parallels or the other program...bogs down my Macbook too much..

Buy a Mac and a Windows VPS.

You can connect to a Windows machine at anytime without using your own resources and you can leave your blackhat tools running 24/7.

I had the same dilemma too, but ended up using a PC because most of the IM tools only can be installed on a pc.

If you do any programming at all, the fact that osx is based on unix is very handy.

You can install free VM software like virtualbox, and run windows apps without issue. Actually, since I have an SSD and plenty of ram, my windows VM runs faster than a lot of native windows machines.

Pretty pointless buying a Mac if you're basically a Windows user and you just want to use other people's apps.

However if you do any automation work of your own then Unix is where it's at, and OS X is the best Unix desktop there is so a Macbook makes a lot of sense. They're great machines.

If you do any programming at all, the fact that osx is based on unix is very handy.

Mac all the way. If your looking to use IM tools just use parallels or whatever else is out there. Also remember, with a Mac you don't need all the anti virus software crap that slows down your computer.

A somewhat related question,since MAC can run on computers with intel chips,does that mean you can build your own mac computer for cheaper then buying from apple,or is it more complicated then building a pc?

Basically you can make a Hackintosh with a supported chipset configuration. It's not supported by Apple but they currently don't stop you from doing it; however, they could easily release an update in the future to block people from using OS X on hardware that they didn't produce. However this looks unlikely because the license for the latest release of OS X actually allows virtualization under some circumstances.

Generally people are happy to pay a premium for Mac hardware though because as well as an awesome OS, the build quality is definitely a cut above your average PC laptop, and it all "just works."

I used to fuck around building PCs and endlessly tweaking Linux installations but now I would much rather pay a bit more to have a great machine that works out of the box and lets me get down to the serious business of making money.

We have a Hackintosh in the office. Once you get it setup right, it's just as stable as the real thing. You need to stick to a recommended build guide of known compatible hardware though. Check out http://tonymacx86.blogspot.com/search/label/CustoMac
