Real names on Whois Data

I dont particularly want my first and last name slandered all over google when someone google's my name and see's every website I have created due to the whois data on domains. How can I get around this?

Truth: Whois privacy is more for yourself than anything else. You can still get the info by contacting the whois guard / domain provider or submitting a request to IANA, especially works if accompanied by a DMCA or TOS violation.

Best way is to get yourself a PO box (they're pretty cheap and can be used for all sorts of blackhatty goodness > ). Use your po box instead of your real address.

But whois privacy makes it all more difficult. And more important people can't find your domains when they google your name.

Register with real info so you won't have problems with the registrar, then once it's registered (minutes after) change it to fake.

So far every provider I used allows you to change the info through their panel.
Takes about 2-24 hours for the new info to appear in new whois lookups.

you may even stretch it this far as to register it to a fake company. you may even go and create one, either way the info will never trace back to you DIRECTLY which is what we want.

Are you guys basically saying private Whois domain registration doesn't protect me? I have alot of sites with private whois.., when I check them it says the registrar Is private... Is my identity still protected?

It's true that someone could contact IANA or your registrar to get your real name if there was some good reason. Also, technically if you put bogas info in there someone could try to hork your domain, but I doubt very much that would happen. That being said, since it doesn't sound like your going to give them a good reason look for registrars that allow you to fill in whatever info you want and change whenever you want. If you have trouble finding one, drop me a pm and I'll be happy to share the registrar I use.

IMO - The hide registration services are a waist of money when you can change your information at will.

register your domains with internetbs.net they are quite cheap and offer free privat whois. they only give out your real data if they get a court order from the bahamas state attorney.

Excellent, thanks for the replies. What about my Hostgator account? Fake or real details? (probably should have asked that also in my first post)

I may do some blackhat CPA stuff so I was wondering if it would be stupid to put my real details on my hosting?

EDIT: Is it worth it to have a second account with each CPA company I am signed up with? Because, would they ban my account if I was doing blackhat things like posting fake job ads that redirect to a CPA offer for "employee screening"?

just note that it is hard to sell a domain with fake whois details so make sure they are correct when you go to sell them

NameCheap give free1 Year WHOIS privacy with all domain purchases.

They even gave me a free SSL before

I buy the domains on godaddy and direct them to either bluehost or hostgator, once they get pointed there the whois just says bluehost. I also change the contact info on godaddy to be careful. I don't know if I can get in trouble for this but I haven't yet and it's been many years.

I have a couple domains registered with my regular information. When I added my new domain they let me opt for privacy for free. I use 1and1.com I'm not in love with their hosting services, but they were super cheap. 6 months free. I prefer bluehoast because they have cpanel, but I didn't have the cheddar to purchase.

If you have on your registrar account more domains they will find you. More than that if that lawyer knows what he is doing he can make your registrar ban you account or just take down you domain, he can do the same with hosting.

Private/face names won't help you here (they just take down your account).

Btw, when using fake names I like to use fake name generator (google it , and no I'm not affiliated with it).

So what about the stories that you can lose your domain if they catch you with fake whois info ? Like the ones godaddy tells in their whois update reminderr emails ?
