Does do-follow no longer matter?

According to some friends of mine, even though the link is no follow, if it contains your keyword, it can still be valuable, especially on the niches where there is no serious competition.
There have been a lot of people telling that odd things are happening at Google right now, therefore I guess that the best sollution is to do our usual things and wait for something good to happen.
After all, a lot of sites went up and down, and so did a lot of pages. Who knows what happened during the last days in serps (especially on the where you've built link).

Wordpress sites are by default no-follow. However you can still get a follow backlink if you work it right.
Guest posts make this very easy. In your anchor when you do a <href> be sure to add a rel= statement. If you do that your golden.

i have sites ranking top10 without any backlink promotion (small competition like 4000 searches/month).
i am not so sure anymore if blog comments or profiles do you any good. i think if you seriously want to rank high competition keywords , or even some with only 4k searches, you really need to have authority backlinks. also i often check out scrapebox backlinks in blogs, i never see them ranking anywhere in google, so i think its just a big bubble dont get me wrong i like scrapebox, xrumer, senuke, but i think they alone dont do you too much good.. you wont rank sites using only these tools unless the sites are low competition and would rank on their own just cos of keyword in domain

It because it automated they dont release they are NOFOLLOW, they just blast them out and hope for the best, they dont check any.

Because backlinks gives your traffic apart from link building credit.
Certainly, backlinks play a major role in driving traffic to your website.
Search engines definitely won't count them but visitors can follow your backlinks and land on your website.

Seems like the blind leading the blind here... Your comment is the wrong way around!
Search engines defiantly WILL count them AND the type of backlinks these are (comments, links buried deep in a forum profile, etc) will NOT generate any traffic at all!! (well maybe 1-4 visitors a year when you have 10,000 links).
Bottom line is this... a link is a link, is a link. Period.
All 'nofollow' does is prevent PR being passed onto the linked pages/sites.

The most NEGATIVE factor - is missing no follow links
I dont have much time for Rand TBH, all spin and gimicks IMHO.
I have yet to build a site where I did not get no follow links in persuit of do follow. I ALWAYS end up with no follow by "accident", its a non issue IMO.

Indexing is irrelevant, its the value they pass... no follow dont pass much value.
Its worth bearing in mind that Bing / Yahoo dont use no follow... whilst the biggest, Google is not the only game in town and Bing traffic is generally better quality than Googles... on that basis alone no follow are worth "something"... but I think you would be a bit silly to deliberately build no follow.... as I said in previous post, you usually get no follow by accident anyway.

there are lots of do-follow wordpress sites around if you know where to look, but for the most part you have to do genuine manual submissions, auto stuff wont get past... most do follow blogs are moderated.
The best links of this kind come from Hi PR news sites etc.. .very strong sites that let you drop links in comments... these are time consuming to find, but it is possible.

Yeah but how many people end up with all do follow and zero no follow?
I always try to build do follow and end up with a load of no follow as well for one reason or another.
