Yes, it would be less captivating, although I'm sensing that it might be more realistic. If you can back up your income figure though, you're fine. If you can't, you're just more hype & BS, IMO.

You might want to use this as a low-cost entry level product to build yourself a list of folks interested in the methods that you mentioned in your ebook.

From there on, funnel them (your list) to higher-priced offers, other affiliate offers, and jv with other folks, perhaps?

If you like, you could set up a "companion" web site to go with the book you are selling. Allow paying buyers to access more detailed content e.g. screen captures of what you have done, video step by step instructions of the methods that you've described, and add (promote, this is) additional tools and services to members, maybe throw in a forum in the members' area even?

i use to do some underhanded activities where id id the exact same thing, only not marketing related... dont know why i never thought of it

whats the chances of the company paying you finding out, getting mad, and banning you for doing that?
