hello everyone,

i plan to start a website for people to post simple jobs for a mere $5.

you will see ads like "i pay you $5 for ..."

for each $5, i make $1.

how do you think? do you think it works?

also, will it violate fiverr trademarks in any way?

As long as you don't use their name (Fiverr) to advertise the website, you should be fine. The idea itself is being used by so many people on the net, and it's not something that they can complain about as long as you don't use their trademark names/logos, etc.

i think if you are going to copy fiverr, you may want to reduce your fees until your site becomes popular enough to warrant the 20% skim off the top...

as far as it violating fiverr trademarks, as long as you don't advertise your site on theirs and you don't mention fiverr anywhere on your site, you should be fine.

i'm not a lawyer, so you may want to confirm that information with a lawyer.

i agree with facebookdude, there are several fiverr clones out there.

Some of them are running pretty good.

But more and more clones are being created atm.

A whole list has been posted by some one here.

you will have alot of competition + its not worth IMo.

I don't think this can be true. Gig is a common dictionary word. I believe it could be used as part of a trademarked slogan, but not by itself.
