Today when I used Rank Tracker I was surprised to see my site ranked 89th out of 350 million pages. I searched and found it actually on the 9th page of Google. My site is only four months old so I was really pumped up. an hour later I searched again but this time it was on the 32nd page. Needless to say, I was a bit let down. Now I can't find at all in the top 60 or so pages. Has anyone had a similar experience and if so, what was the final outcome. I wonder if somehow i'll be restored at least to the top ten pages.

That or Panda. There are reports of another Panda hit today. If you're still moving around though, most likely just dancing

I have had this, I was ranked 6th then jumped down to 24th then now I am back upto 8th. Does that mean something good is happening?

If your site shows up, then its a google dance. If it doesnt then you have been removed form the index. The first is by far the most common.

95% of the time the G dance means something good is happening. Be patient young whipper snapper

Yep, I'm still there so I guess it must be a dance. If I make it back to the top I'll be sure to post it here. In the meantime I'm following all the good advice people have given me.

Yes I was getting 85 clicks an hour for 4 hours straight after that Google dropped my site like a rock.

That should be good motivation! Keep adding content and back links and you'll be back to getting those clicks. Don't let the fact that you got sent back a few pages discourage you.

Well I see that my site is now on page 36 for a keyword having 342,000,000 results. That's not even close to where I was before(page 9). Oh well, at least it's visible again.

one question --this site is loaded down with ads from google, infolinks, clickbank, plimus, CJ, you name it. Also I got two flash ads on home page. Do you think it will help if I lightened the load a bit? (BTWI have plenty if good original content surrounding ads.) In other words, is page speed really an important ranking factor or is it just hype?

Just an update on what's happening with my site and the dance.

Tonight I'm on page 10 of Google for 355,000,000 results. Earlier I was getting only 10.100,000 results and was on page 8.

I couldn't understand why the resulting pages varied so much in number until I read about in private browsing and how Google tries to think for me when it serves me results(something I absolutely hate).

But finally my searches are pure again and I am getting all competing pages. Hope the dance is over with at least for the moment until I can do more link building.

It seems that page loading speed becomes a huge factor, so yes, optimize your pages for speed. Keep only ads that are producing income and get rid of the rest. If you don't know which is which - run a short adwords campaign to find out, will save you a lot in the long run.

Thanks to everyone for helping me out and providing me with answers, but I have another question. I was on page 8 all day yesterday but today not in the top 20 pages.

How long on average does a dance usually last?
