showing website for specific countries

lets say i live in the US and i want have a website only show up in the UK, do i then have to have a webhost in the UK? I know it'll show up either way but i want the "chance" to show up more in the UK rather the US so would having a webhost at the country you want your website to show up on SERPs be helpful?

If you are curious for SERP, then better way register ccTLD domain like co.uk and opt hosting services from any reputable web host either from UK or US.

Certainly having a webhost in UK would be helpful for your site to show up more in the UK. You can also specify your target audience in Google Webmaster Central.

You can also change content based on the country of the user's IP.

This isn't perfect but might help you control where your traffic comes from.

You can also change content based on the country of the user's IP.

There is a free GeoLocation database called MaxMind which has the IP ranges for countries throughout the world if you want to go down the above route
