Bought a site a while again ranking really well (4th on most search engines - 7000 exacts)

But have just found out there's only 6 backlinks,that isn't good is it ?

One backlink is a blog comment from another related site - is that what I should do ?

I'm afraid of messing up my link building - want to do it manually to be safe !

I've social bookmarked some of my pages on Digg,stumbleupon etc but that's it !

Are you saying you bought a site that someone sold to you or did you start the site yourself?

Bought the site (this was around 4 months ago now)

It's still high up on search engines but I'm afraid it might drop in the future.But since it's an EMD that should help !

Edit - bought the site from someone else.it's nearly a year old but I've only owned it for 4 months.

How much does it earn at moment? If it earns well, build links manually and slowly improve.

If ifs not really earning I would buy some services here - link blasts or whatever.

Don't worry about negative effects - you have to take risks if you want to get anywhere IMHO

Spend your profits on a backlink building service, if you are ranked 4th with only 6 backlinks then it shouldn't take much money to rank the top position with your EMD.

Earnings are quite good (for me anyway) although it's not doing as well as it was before I bought it

Don't want to use any sort of blackhat method on it (ironic isn't it ?) although I did get 5k backlinks for one of my brand new sites today xD (not using adaense on it though for the moment)

Yeah,problem is the 3 above me are all the same site !!! (it's a large company - will never beat them).

Yeah you really need to do some linkbuilding if you want your site to grow. You can definitely do it manually, or hire someone else to do it. Obviously, you are scared of negative effects from some of the blackhat tools. However, you need to take risks if you want to succeed. Also, I hope you are adding new content to your site as well.

Yup adding content a lot more than the other owner anyway.

Good stuff. Just keep doing what you're doing and you should be fine. You can also spin your articles and put them in article directories. Do manual blog linking. Ask other webmaster in same niche if they will link to you. Many things can be done to drive traffic up.
