The Google Directory powered by DMOZ is gone.

Source:http://www.google.com/dirhp

We believe that Web Search is the fastest way to find the information you need on the web.
If you prefer to browse a directory of the web, visit the Open Directory Project at dmoz.org
Google shut down its directory which was powered by their own open directory project DMOZ.org.
So does it mean that google will not use the database of DMOZ while judging and majoring the authority of any website??? As they have openly said that they believe thier own web search engine is the fastest way to find the required information on the web. Please share your thoughts on it.

It was about time to get rid of this old fart.

Most people use google to find information so why would they support dmoz? Noone use it beside seo guys

It hasn't been relevant for years. Just spammed.

If anything I think it will help seo guys like ourselves. Google is always looking to the future, not staying around in the past.

Nowadays Directories does not playing vital role in SEO, so there is no any shocking news here. Google is billionaire company and its know its worth!

This is wonderful news! It was extremely hard to get in Dmoz recently and no no need at all!!

Terrible news. I presume this means that they are devaluing the dmoz site too. Inclusion in dmoz is one of the best ways to ensure that you can blast your site with backlinks and not get de-indexed.

many of good sites in google dir's are dropped in google rank. I think this is caused by this problem.

But DMOZ will still be around - and I would still say yes to a backlink from there. But as we all know, that is next to impossible unless you bribe one of the editors - or become one!

I for one am bummed. I have several sites in dmoz (and therefore dir.google). The google mirrors were higher PR then dmoz is. I think this might have some impact on my income, but with how flaky google is any more I have learned not to trust them for my main source of traffic.

No surprise there. I believe that DMOZ will pass normal linkjuice as normal websites and not be weighted any differently now adays. Who uses directories to find anything anymore? We have robust infrastructures that allows for complex algorithms/systems, directories like DMOZ are a thing of the past.
