[Journal/Method/spoonfeed] The 'Crashed Challenge' 30 Days to Money...

I've been doing this Crash challenge with three different websites (2 so far, 1 just getting set up).
I can see people getting held up on the "think of a website" step, but I implore you, just DO IT. You are not here to make money, you are here to learn how to make money.

I will be the first to admit my first two website ideas were complete crap. But I still learned the basics of internet marketing, and am beginning to form a picture of how and why it works. I went over the first 16 days for both of my websites, and even went back and reviewed each step to make sure I'm perfecting each step.

I will re-post with my thoughts when I actually make some money. For all you fellow try-ers, let's keep going and staying motivated.

I came in late...about 9 days ago. Got started about 8 days ago. Im working on two sites...Im looking at this as a learning experience but i 100% except to make at least a few bucks eventually...both are reasonably easy for me to create content for, so I hope to experiment different techniques with the two.

Thank you a TON for this. I am planning to get started on this within the next month. Tomorrow is my Day 1.

Very well said. People get themselves locked into thinking that their site has to be 'perfect', or has to have the scope to become the ultimate money making machine. I had the same mental block with my first couple of sites, and wasted tons of time procrastinating about the domain name, and then the theme, and then the font, the logo etc etc....

All those things are important, of course, but for the sake of this exercise, the ideal mindset is "hey, it's an experiment". Run with the first idea you have. It doesn't matter if the entire project only brings you in a few bucks. Your focus should be on learning the basics for now, and if you cover setup costs and hopefully make a modest profit in the first 30 days, then that's a great result in itself.

Of course you WANT to make loads of money and compete with the guy who claims to have made $2k already. But there's time for that on your 2nd, or 3rd, or 5th site.

This is NOT the only website you will be creating. You don't have to get EVERY LITTLE DETAIL right first time. Look at Crashed's "Best Football Goals" site! It's certainly got scope for development, and it provides solid, readable content for people interested in that subject - (personally I've got about as much interest in football goals as I have in knitting spaghetti)... BUT it's clearly not going to win any awards for breathtaking design or groundbreaking content. It doesn't have to.

(That is obviously not a criticism in any way... I'm just saying that people are overcomplicating things. Crashed's demo site is simple and unfussy. That's the point! Any one of us could throw up something like that.)

Focus on the PROCESS for now, not so much on the payoff. When the time comes to create your second site, you will already know the ropes and can really go for it on that one. But for now, people should stop striving for perfection and not be afraid of screwing up. Because you basically can't get it wrong!

never give up also! i just had loads of problems with my website, ended up having to re-add my adsense and change my theme, add all my side bar again and re position my adds. nightmare! haha, but im sticking with it. There is still just under half way to go yet!

I'm having trouble with stuff on my site too and I haven't even finished day 2 yet.I can't get that damn google webmasters code verified. My host is different than what crashed showed in his video and I don't have some of the options his host has. Then there's the YouTube Embed plugin which doesn't have the options crashed showed in the video too so no matter how simple the tasks look I have to stumble in to something while doing them.

Do you not think that you could try and change your host so you have all the options we have? i think it would be a lot more beneficial in the long run, and it will make things and help a hell of a lot easier?

I would change my host but I can't afford it.Maybe the host has those options but they're not showing.

kriss, do some things on fiverr , or write some articles...go to the BHW #makecash channel and write some articles for people, make a few quick bucks...switch hosting.

Which hosting company are you with, Kriss? Maybe someone else in the thread has had experience of it.

Lol,I don't have free hosting if that's what you guys think.I'm with IPage and they suck.Nothing works from the first time with them. You always have to talk to the tech guys who sometimes hold you for an hour or two to explain the simplest of things. This hosting company complicates everything.
If someone else is with IPage and would like to enlighten me how to verify the google webmasters code through the root directory I would appreciate it.I don't really wanna talk to the tech guys because they'll keep me on the chat forever until they make things clear. Also I installed the Artiss Youtube Embed plugin and when I checked the video crashed made regarding the plugin, before he installed it I got a quite look in the description and it said that the developer's name was Artiss so I'm guessing I have an updated plugin or something but it doesn't look at all as it was in the video.Like I said, some things are straightforward on paper but you never know how complicated they are in reality until you try them.

Ouch. And I thought Godaddy was a pain in the ass... Sorry I can't help you with IPage. Never even heard of them, to be honest.

While going through the days, should we post content on those days? I'm still at Day 4, so if a further day states the content posting, then simply disregard this question. =)

Do you use CPanel? Are you able to access the root directory through FTP? And... yes the latest version of the plugin is called Artiss Youtube Embed. When you are posting, if you want to see the youtube plugin are you making sure you are using the "Visual" tab when posting instead of the "HTML" tab? If so, what options are you lacking?

You should be constantly posting new articles. Every single day, or better yet, write out like 10-15 articles and schedule them to post for you each day.

I'm having some trouble with CuteFTP atm.I can't get it to register so I'll have to look for a working version.I'll upload some screenshots to show you what are my problems and I'll pm you if that's ok.
