Windows 7 Ultimate for my Laptop and Desktop. But somehow my desktop with a dual core 3.2 GHz proccesor and 4 GB of ram is faster than my Core i7 with 8 GBs of RAM?

Ubuntu (both laptop and desktop and server)
and windows xp / vista / 7 as virtual computers!

Cheers,

Is it better to build a intel based pc to run mac os on,or buy the pc from apple? I heard they overcharge for the specs on their pc's

Win xp from a long time, thinking on moving to win 7.

Have you guys saw general improvements with win 7 ? Your regular software keeps running or do you have to update to newer versions ?

Just one word : DONT

I have several Mac computers as well as a Windows machine. My main machine is dualbooted to handle both. I will be perfectly honest and say that Mac definitely WAY overchages for their hardware specs. I'm talking about thousands in difference if you're building yourself.

I have a Mac Pro soley for the fact I already had a macbook and other apple products and the integration was good. That, and they're beautiful computers. But if you're looking at cost effectiveness, definitely build yourself. You can build a much better quality PC for less than the lowest end Mac Pro.

I could never understand why so many photographers and video editors use macs, when they can get a much more powerful machine for less. Even one of the local news companies where i live, bought macs instead of hiring someone to build custom ps's.

Windows XP 32 bit, processor of Intel Pentium 4 with 504 RAM :D very poor but dreaming and planning for a Mac :)

IMO if you extend it to 2 GB RAM, your PC would work really good.

RAM is cheap nowadays.

Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit on both deskstop/laptop win xp on virtual box. Planning to use AMD's hexacore soon and install XP on virtual box with dual monitor.

windows xp

SSD drive

4 monitors

i am 10 times faster on my "old" PC than any of you.

I am 20 times faster than a mac user

:)

Tony, whats your boot speed on SSD like??

Personally, I use two OS :

  • Windows Vista Ultimate 64 bits (<= a bit less crappy than 32 bits)
  • Mac OS X 10.6.3 on Dell Mini 9 (Hackintosh)

Hardware wise they aren't as impressive at the price point, but their cinema displays are almost every artist's wet dream. They're really amazing and definitely what attracted me to macs in the beginning. You can't get a better quality color profile and they have a habit of backfiring when connected to PC machines.
