Reciprocal linking (Link exchange) still works?

One of my new clients has a website which has some very good rankings.

I did some investigation and questioned about the previous SEO specialist who worked on his site.

I found that he has 75 pages each with 10 links in which came form link exchanges.

Now the thing is, his rankings are very good and the site has not been up long.

So my question is, do link exchanges still work as an SEO tactic?

Anyone out there still doing it?

Well on a brand new blog I found a link exchange from a PR3 site, I instantly appeared at rank 19 for a [10k] KW and have only gone up ever since. So I think within reason they can't be a bad thing.

I've never taken part in l9ink exchanges, i'm wondering what tactics people sue to get them.

Scrapebox scrape emails and then send an email out requesting a link exchange?

Yeah that's one way, not how I do it, I go for a completely manual approach just contacting webmasters directly, takes time but you can get some amazing links.

you can use Link Assistant to automate search for possible link partners and also link management. Its available for download on this forum. You can do 2 way,3 way or 4 way link exchanges are the results are comparable to any other link building method.

It makes sense to consider link exchanges as a part of your link building strategy. It should not be the only way of getting links to your site.

I have used a website called Linkmarket in the past, and used to get loads of backlinks on high PR link pages. The FREE process involves sending 5 link requests a day choosing from the vast directory, in the hope you will get a positive response. You will also be sent requests yourself from potential reciprocal partners.

About 5 years ago i got a PR5 website just by doing reciprocal linking and nothing else, don't know if it would work today but may be worth the experimenting.

No don't have a links page, normally a homepage sidebar or footer link. Seeing as as I strive for quality I will only get 10 link exchanges max!

In my eyes if Google can see that as a collaboration that I am yet to be penalised for.
