I'm curious as to how much of a difference there is in terms of traffic volume for a site on page 1 vs a site on page 2 ? I have a site that's 2 weeks old thats on page 2 for a 74k exact match search term and I'm getting no traffic. I thought that even on page 2 I'd get decent traffic from a 74k exact match keyword phrase. :(

page 2 no traffic page one depending an a keyword huge traffic.

I think it's something like 60% of people click on the first result, 12% second, the by the fifth like 4%. After that it's pretty much worthless.

Ha ha..

Forget about the difference between page 1 and page 2. Even with in page 1 the visits differ between positions.

The first result will get a whopping 42% of all the people who searches for the key term, so if your result is not the first result for the keyword, you are losing out big time. Then it decreases rapid until 9th search result, but the 10th result will get slightly higher visits than the 9th, may be as it is close to the bottom.

So there cannot be any comparison between first and second page.

If the keyword is purely about information, then there are chances that people will search the second and third page

If the keywords is about deals/coupons/videos then there is a chance that they will search in the second and third pages, else there is no use of a second/third page.

P.S: If you can get your site to the second page, then you can move it to the first page as well by doing certain things correctly.

What certain things must you do correctly?

Man thats brutal ! Hopefully i can move up in rank. My site first appeared on page 2 a week after I published it. Hopefully I can move it to page one with some backlinks.

Page 2 is nothing bro. Aim for the first top three results to see some good traffic. Unless you land on page 1, page 2 is pretty much garbage.

Well that is what the whole forum is about. The only thing you need to keep in mind is to respect the changes happening with google algorithm update.

1) Do your On-site SEO well. If you cannot keep track of the things you need to do, to make sure your page is perfect, then go for a plugin like easy seo. make sure your page is at least more than 80% Optimized.

2) Build relevant and good internal linking. Make sure the navigation with in the site is good.

3)Don't create pages randomly and then delete them.

4) Offsite SEO is equally important. Build links slowly at the begining and after say two months, slowly increase the link velocity.

5) Build variety of links, have a healthy mix of web 2.0, articles, videos site, documents, purchased links in high pr sites, bookmarking with both do follow and no follow mix, go for a three level link pyramid with a broad first level. Target around 3 keywords for the site. also build links not related to keywords, like having anchor text click here, visit this link, and so on. Make it as natural as possible

There is no reason for any search engines to ignore you if you do all these things.

Think of it this way. Unless your #1 #2 or #3 on page one you wont see much traffic after that. Depends on the niche but in my niches you better be in the 1st 3 position or make very few sales.
