How Do You Protect Yr Computer Identity While Using Proxies?

Hi:
I may be showing my neophyte status here, but my understanding is that even if you use a proxy to hide your identity, there is other information about your computer [such as what software you have on it] that is transmitted to the websites you visit so you could be traced. My questions are:
a) is this true? and does anyone have the experience of being "busted"/ID-ed even with using proxies?
b) if it is true, do you know how to avoid that issue? I was thinking of setting up a separate identity on my computer and signing into that when I used proxy service, but wasn't sure if that would really work as presumably same software would be available, but if that offers a possible option, please advice the best way to do that.

To increase your anonymity:

a) Create a separate user on this computer. (You could have a new Firefox profile, but you might forget to switch.)
b) Disable all cookies, except when you opt it. Cookies can track you.
c) Use your browser in "incognito" mode. This will disable cookies, for example.
d) Install plugins like Ghostery. This is redundant with disabling cookies, though.
e) If you are really paranoid, disable Javascript or install NoScript.

I am curious if other BHW's have more details about how they manage many different accounts (e.g. for facebook or twitter).

Also, your main points of weakness are not your web browser, but your PayPal account and credit card and your Google products, like AdSense and Analytics. To use them, you sacrifice anonymity.

You can change your user agent. A BHW member has created an awesome tool, (Proxy Tool Addon for Firefox and Chrome) that will do this for you.

That has nothing to do with how you connect to the internet. Your computer user identity doesn't show to the internet, it's only used within your personal/office computer network.

If you go and get virtual pc, your computer will remains private as every time you use with the proxies and exit the application by select "delete and don't make a change", your computer will stay clean and private. No one would ever know where you are or where you are coming from. It would make them thinks you are the real people that are coming from a different country
