Am I doing it wrong?

It was last year dec that I got started on SEO and without any money all the backlinks built were manually done by me. The only method i use is through articles, I found like 40+ pr1-6 article directories and submit a spun article everyday. And after 6 months I finally ranked a keyword on first page which now brings me about $0.30/day via adsense.

So thinking back of my hardwork, should I just use scrapbox and dripfeed all the backlinks? Is it much faster and less tedious?

No don't go for automation at this stage continue the good work which you are doing previously and soon there will be an increase in your adsense revenue.

So he has been doing it manually for over 6 months but should not "go for automation at this stage" ?? When should he go for automation? Is there like a year or a two year wait or something?

Nothing wrong with adding automation to your plans. I would not go crazy with it and start blasting 50k link blasts to your site but send some to your site and backlink all those articles you have done over the past six months fairly steadily and you should see some improvements. Start easy and work up to heavier runs over time.
