I'm probably gonna just hit up dealers but it seems like I'm able to save like 10-20% off local prices (with haggling local car salesmen included) on eBay so I'm curious

Just find a trusted seller... find one that is an actual dealership selling vehicles online. I mean your gonna have to meet to get the car anyways just purchase it and say next day your bringing up the cash so its in person and not online.

well with estate auctions you can get awesome prices. like when the cops bust people and take all their stuff. I saw on the news where this guy's brand new lambo was sold for something like $40k

The pastor of my church bought his minivan on eBay. This was a few years ago. We live in Washington state and he had to go all the way to AZ to drive the van back. It's still going strong by the looks of it. I guess if you're going to go that route, it's important that the seller realize that you will be going to them personally to look at the vehicle. My friend has bought every car he's ever owned on eBay. He's loved them and never had any big problems with the sellers.

I've been to police auctions before. I have a few specific cars in mind which doesn't fit will with that.

I was thinking of hiring someone (mechanic) to look at the car and then paying + extra to have it shipped. I traveled a lot and found a lot of trouble when I was young so there are states I can't drive in legally and other states with outstanding non extraditable warrants and I don't fuck with the law these days so unless its in certain close states I probably will not be driving it back.
Just be careful with eBay, and as MoreMoney stated, find a trusted seller. Even then, you can be surprised because there are certain things they can get away with not disclosing.
I'm a dealer, in my offline world, and I have bought and sold on eBay, as well as seen what some of my fellow dealers sell, and there is a fine line. Not to mention the hassle if you had a claim.

There are a lot of dealers on ebay as well. Most have moved online as well as offline. I wouldn't buy from anyone without a lot of positive feedback about cars.

Ive bought almost every car ive owned off ebay and several for friends and family.
-make sure they have good feedback
-get carfax like normal
-do research on dealership that is selling
-Most Important **** Pay an inspection company to inspect the car. There are a shit ton of companies that have locations all over the nation that will do like a 300 point inspection including sending pictures of the vehicle and any discrepancies for around $99. Will save your ass.

Thanks, I 100% planned on doing all of these things. The part that really worries me is most require a deposit within 48 hours which would probably be before I can make time to go and see them so I guess I'm really just worried about putting $2k down to have it held for a week or two before I can either get out there or arrange to have it shipped.
But an independent inspection, carfax and dealing only with actual dealers was already a given as far as my thoughts go.
My issue is right now I moved from FL and am in a crappy ass town until the end of summer, I'm looking at getting either an Audi A4, Escalade or a Lincoln Mark LT and want to get something 2-3 years old with like 40K-75K miles because that bumps the price WAY down from buying new but there are so few locally here that I'd save a lot going the eBay route.
1. Carfax is a joke -- use Autocheck, as that is what myself and all the dealers I know use. It is more detailed and catches frame damage that CF misses 99% of the time. I believe it is cheaper, too.
2. Go with the A4.

2. The A4 is like the only care I like, I usually drive trucks or large SUVs so its barely on the list and just because I drove one and had a blast. Mostly thinking Escalade or the Lincoln truck but if I see an A4 at the right price that's why its still in the running.

German cars are nice looking but super expensive to repair and a pain in the ass. Go Cadillac. I went from a Crossfire SRT-6 (basically a mercedes slk amg - aka pain in the ass) to a cadillac sts-v. My cadillac is awesome, it looks like it costs $80,000 (because it used to) its comfortable, fast as hell 469 HP supercharged engine, and cheaper to repair.
I got mine for 20K cant beat that price.
