Another Panda Update. F Google

Panda didn't hurt me as much but with one keyword it did. moved from page 1 to page 2. Will fight my way back of course :D

the funny thing is it hurt my best content page not my adsense pages...

That doesn't sound like panda dude, that sounds more like the dance OR some of your links got slapped?

maybe.

But there is more going on than PANDA only today !

A lot of Pageranks moved aswell today (don't know any site that has been highered so its no real pagerank update I guess).

F.e. I do know some pages which PR moved from

7 -> 3
7 -> 0 (!!)
n/a -> 0

google is cleaning up I guess

I've had 2 of my sites slapped cold, both were on the first page for several competitive keywords, and I mean like 1m+ exact competition. Both sites had only original content! 500 word articles with images and videos posted daily by dedicated writers.

Guess what? Both sites had no linkbuilding aside from xrumer blasts. All my other sites are fine, only 2 out of 50 got slapped and only the two that had no links at all aside from direct spam. Many of my other sites have direct profile and blog comment links, but not only those, it's a healthy mix of other stuff, from social media, to videos to articles, bookmarks high pr blogs etc. I'm sure they will come back after a few months of linkvana link building but it still sucks.

The lesson I got from this is that if you only have shit links to your site then it doesnt matter how good your content is, youre gonna be slapped. But if you have a large diversity of backlinks, your seo will only grow stronger. Think about it, if you could do an xrumer blast to your competitors site and get them deindexed that would be a deadly tool. Big G isn't stupid which is why they cant devalue shit links, but they can punish you if it is blatantly obvious that that's all you do for seo.

I really don't think it's about links, my site that got hit had quality diverse links from all over and NO spam links. Panda is about onsite, I have quality onsite but I think there is more that I can do to improve it which hopefully will help. You say that you had other authors posting content, maybe some of them are posting duplicate content? The sites that didn't get hit are they also taking content from other daily writers? So you're saying those other sites are pretty much the same as the one that got hit, the only difference is backlinks? I really don't think it's backlinks but of course, only Google employees know the real answer.

Just change your strategy up guys and don't forget to push new unique content. Also, be sure to cloak your affiliate links from search engines.

Newbie question....how do i cloak my affiliate links??

That's weird, I noticed one of my keywords dissapeared for its rank but most of my sites are okay.. I'll double check on this

You young un's don't know how easy you've got it these days. Panda updates aside, a few years ago when I got seriously into SEO in the mid-2000s, you could never count on a site ranking for more than a few weeks at a time.

This was back in the days when G updated every 4-6 weeks (what people used to call "dancing" as the index got rolled out to all the data centres) and it would basically be completely different each time. If you were spamming, chances are you would have a 6 week life spam on any given batch of stuff and you'd have to rebuild from scratch each time.

These days, the plethora of link spamming apps out there and the possibility of damaging other people's sites with link spam has meant that in many ways G is more tolerant of link spam these days. Also, the constant rolling update of the serps has translated into sites hanging around in the serps a lot longer than they used to.

If your sites have been hit then you have my sympathies, but it's also an indication that you have failed to mix up your site generation and link building techniques enough. You shouldn't ever put yourself in a position where you live or die on the performance of one site, or one batch of sites.

If Panda is all about onsite what else can we do to improve our on-site score besides the usual h1, h2, bold/underline text, external authority link, 2% kw density, etc. Is it upping the length of the content? Right now I do about 500+ word per post so do we need to increase to like 700+ or more?

I had one of my main keywords (6600 exact) that had previously been at number 7 spot. Today noticed that it is bouncing between 2 and 3.

yeah up and down but for my super nice keyword im at #12 from #28 so im not too mad

This is dead on. I have almost 100 sites, 30 of which I work on and track fairly actively. I have a slightly different strategy for each of the sites I set up. My stats look normal today. A few are up, a few are down but most are about the same.

saw also the thing yesterday, on one of my competitors page. after the pr update it was pr5, yesterday was on pr4, today back on pr5.

Really funny, but most crappy websites i have got PR1-2 from a PR0. These sites are 1 page sites promoting strange stuff!

This update finally treated our main site right. G traffic has more than doubled from 200-300 to 400-600 in the past few days. About time they ranked up our legitimate authority site.
