So, I've been wondering what impact does word order in an exact match domain have? As in:

Niches are: buy potatoes and buy red potatoes

Would big G see "buypotatoes[.]com" the same as "potatoesbuy[.]com"? Or "buyredpotatoes[.]com", "redbuypotatoes[.]com" and "buypotatoesred[.]com"?

Would be grateful if anyone could shed some light into this, since the SERPs for "buy potatoes" and "potatoes buy" are the same.

Tried using the Search tool but there's too many threads with the words "domain, order, word"

I think word order is of no matter since if you are ranking for buy potatoes(exact search) I guess potatoes buy would be a phrase search thus ranking would be same

So the only downside of having a weirdly shaped domain is that "buypotatoes" sounds better than "potatoes buy"?

EDIT: I've probably picked a bad keyword (because of the buy). What about, say, olive oil? oliveoil-.-com, oilolive-.-com

"buypotatoes " is the what we caled exact macth by defination.. as a software first one is far better and 2nd one is different and should only buy if there is no other option. Yous should go with the "buypotatoes". It will give you the real power of exact domain.

So the hierarchy should be:

1. Exact match .com without dash
2. Exact match .com with dash
3. Exact match .org/.net without dash
4. Exact match .org/.net with dash
5. Altered word order .com without dash
6. Altered word order .com with dash

Something among those lines?

I would say to change 2. and 3. in this list..

And yes , word order matters..You can find this metric in Marketsamurai KW tool , under "Phrase-to-Broad Ratio" (PBR) column...
