I recently stumbled across a nice little niche that has changed the way that I will do business in the future. I recently created a site that went from zero to one hundred uniques a day within the first week, with absolutely NO link building, bookmarking, pinging or anything else. I simply put the site up and began getting traffic from Google instantly. 70% of the visitors are certified organic straight from the Big G. Is it a fluke? could be, but I think there is more to it then that. Let me give you some more details.
I came across the niche, which I will Not give away, because I was searching for something online. When all the info I found was old and outdated I thought to myself, surely others are looking for this too. I knew the subject had a large following. So I did the keyword research. Sure enough, 6600 exact match local searches and around 50,000 global exact match searches for the main keyword.
Well I had already seen the competition, lots of wikis and yahoo answers but that never intimidates me. There were under 500k sites that came up for exact match search (with " ") and just under a million broad match. Again not intimidating but It looked like a bit of work and I had other projects.
A few weeks later, several projects finished up and the niche popped into my head again. Out of curiosity I checked with my registrar and sure enough the exact match .com was available. I picked it up. With nothing else to do I figured, what the hell, I'll put a site up and work on it in my spare time. There are lots of products related to the niche so I figured, maybe it would earn a couple bucks down the road with adsense and some CPA's.
So I started putting up a site. Well after having it up for a week I decided to put my full keyword list together so I could track rankings. When I noticed I had several positions already I checked my stats. Over 500 unique visitors within that week and steadily growing. I was pretty amazed to say the least being as I had done no link building or any other promotion. Another week into it and I have just under 1000 people signed up to my newsletter already.
So why don't I think this is a fluke? Why don't I think my rankings will drop soon? Well first off I'm not ranking that highly. Mostly pages 2-3. I think my instant success with this one is due to the nature of the niche and the lack of any recent competition. The bounce rate on the existing sites is probably huge because they haven't changed in years so everyone is digging to the inner pages for new info. Google sees that people are thirsty for new info and they are anxious to give it to them. It's a no brainer and I am willing to bet there are thousands of similar niches out there that google needs new content for due to the bounce rate of existing sites and the depth of pages people are digging.
Feel free to ask any questions that dont involve me telling you my exact niche. Also feel free to flame and/or doubt if you must. I am really just stoked about my new project and wanted to share.
