For niche website hosting, how important is it to have each website have it's own IP?

Or is it no big deal to use shared IP?

Does not matter at all.

Unless you are planning on linking all the sites together to form a support network the ip address does not matter.

I've read that if you are on an IP with a heavy spammer or something like that that it can negatively affect the other sites that share that IP.

Is that just a myth, or just very unlikely?

That is true but as long and your with a good webhost that know what there doing you don't really have anything to worry about.

Look unique dedicated IP is not an attempt to make a fool anyone, but potentially it is an quality signal...Usually, search engines may use more than just IP to determine which sites are owned by the simialr person. However, having a dedicated IP address for each website is a good idea or at least you should have a one dedicated IP address for all your sites.

What hosts are good for getting different IP addresses?

You can also get extra dedicated Ips from your current web host, but it depends on how good a justification you can provide, because recently web hosts hesitate to give out a bunch a IP addressees.

The actual reason behind these strict rules is, a lot of owners use them for malpractices and allotted Ips gets blacklisted, which is simply annoying for web host. And unblocking blacklisted Ips is very lengthy and time consuming process..

If you use dedicated IP for each your site then you can build link to each other among your all sites. But before doing this be sure that Whois info of each domain also are different for each domain.

It is not a big deal to use shared IP. Just make sure all other sites are not ultra black. I would say it is even better in the eyes of a search engine when your website is on shared IP among other white sites.

So I think, there is no need to purchase separate IP for each domain, however, if you are owning multiple e-commerce sites and want private SSL certificate for each, then it's necessarily. [/FONT]
