5 Small sites, or one big site (diff niches)

I've been reading for afew years now and finally think im going to put my foot down and work hard to try making money online (legitimately).. The only decent idea I had that doesnt scam people was a website with articles/blogs and ads on it (nothing making people fill out forms or anything, just basic ads) - I realize this wont make me a millionaire overnight like abusing people with email scams/etc would, but I rather be honest and have a high quality site for repeat-visitors over making money.

My question though; I have about 5 different "niches" that interest me and that I feel I could write strong articles about, but unfortunately they are somewhat varied, not relating. Is it better to have 5 different sites (which increases domain costs) or have one "super-site" that has tons of articles, but may look somewhat random to be lumped together..

I like the idea of having one site, solely for the fact that when I do promotion/link building it is more focused and would be much easier to build my "brand" up..

from an seo perspective if the niches vary then five sites are better than one. you want google to know what your site is about. if you think it is going to be more social with loyal readers then one site would make sense (like the pioneer woman).

Different domain for each niche.

Since you are just starting out, don't overwhelm yourself.

Create one, then build it by adding content and backlinks. Once it starts getting decent traffic, start the next.

Create one site at a time.. Build it up properly and see how well it does. When I first started doing affiliate marketing I bought probably close to 100 domains.. (no joke).. and when it was finally time to start working I was so overwhelmed with attempting to build them all out. Finally I took the approach of building 1 site a week. Spending a few hours a day setting each one up then doing some manual linking then buying some paid services.. So far it has worked out pretty well.

I agree with the word one at a time, it is sometimes good to do multitasking..but yes, one at a time is great, slowly but surely.

I use this strategy - I build for example 5-10 sub-niche sites one by one and all related to one big niche on a different domain. Then, I begin to notice which of them are gonna be more successful than others. For example - if site 1 is ranking easily for a good keyword and the traffic is good, I make it the main niche site and put all my efforts on SEO and advertising on it. Also, I publish a lot more content and try to interact with the visitor through the social networks or e-mail newsletter. In a results it begins to look as a big niche related blog/site with good community and all other sub-niche sites become strong satellites. I make money from them too... Finally, all is looking as a mini network of niche related sites.

If you are going to build up a few sites at once then do what I do and put together some kind of timetable. It may sound a bit anal, but it can get overwhelming trying to juggle too many things, and sometimes you forget what you did to that one site which made it work. Put together a solid timetable with each site allocated a certain date or time and note everything you do on a spreadsheet with a date stamp. You then know what worked well for which site and can revert back to that form of marketing for the other sites. Look at it from a Project Management point of view.

If it going to be different niche and then u could go for 5 sites else 1 big site would be enough.

i have a question about this too, but in regard to product selling sites. Like say I wanted to sell digital cameras from amazon, should i create a site for each individual product, or a site about many cameras ?

One big site if you will use adsense ads but you may think about 1 mini sites if you want to focus on affiliate products/ For instances if you want to sell cameras don't build a big site about cameras. By doing this you'll confuse your readers and take time to convert them unto customers. Build 1 good mini site for each camera because customers will often looking for a specific camera. But you can also build sites by models and show various particularities (pixel, memory...) in order to allow readers better choose their cameras. Never build sites about 2 or more models only if you want to show comparaison. Unfortunately comparaison does not help people to decide instantly to buy. So 1 site for 1 product.

what if i was going to have a website promoting hundreds of digital cameras on amazon, would you still say creating a site for each camera would be better? I mean i see how it would be preferred but would the increased work involved in doing so be worth it with that factored in?

I perceive that in case of different niches, certainly we should have five different websites. This is because; with five different websites, search engines, such as Google, Yahoo and Bing and so on can understand the significance of each of our websites and our products and services offerings.
