Well... lots of discussions here about the ethics of writers. Yeah... for sure lots of guys are there who are just giving it a try and that goes against the real writers struggling for attractive compensation on behalf of their hard work creating well researched and unique content on given topics.
You may find me a newbie here without any feedback or reputation but I have done well on DP and anyone can check out the feedback of my clients regarding the writing assignments I have completed so far. If anyone here needs excellent quality written articles PM me. I offer content replacement in case you don't like the write ups and can work approx 16 hrs if there is good and consistent compensation.
What I want to say here that not all non-natives are the same. Just like each native can't produce quality content! But it's true that approx 90% of non-native are jut selling their crappy writing services for a few bucks that is a big obstacle before the good writers from non-native countries.

There's no doubt in my mind that, here and there, you could find a non-native speaker who could write in American or British idiom. But it would be just that, here and there. And sifting through all the chaff just isn't worth it - not fair, but true.
Just FYI, though, when you are looking for clients, and claiming top-notch native skills, you probably should clean up a sentence like this one:

As a former professional writer and college professor, I wouldn't want to have to diagram that sentence - I also wouldn't want to compare it to a similar sentence written by a strong native writer.

Other thing i did once- do you know examiner.com- reputable site with big ammount of usa traffic and their own writers team, go there- find article your niche that you like then connect with a writer who added this article/review- ussually they have email or IM to connect. I ordered mine for $10 but sure you can drop price for long time terms

I would stay away from these guys. They are charging .03 a word and their samples look horrible (for that price anyway).

As someone who has been a long time lurker, I actually find it hilarious that almost every writing service offered is by a non native speaker. Most of these "writers" have skills equivalent to someone entering high school if even that.
I'd be more than happy to do a practice run on a topic of your choosing so you could gauge my skills.Anyways, I can't yet send messages since I don't have the required post count so if you do feel the need to find someone else to write please don't hesitate to send me a message. Go to www.odesk.com I've gotten a native English speaker/writer for .01 a word for original content!

I've done loads of articles in my time online, i usually charge around the $10 per 500 word article mark when doing content for other people.
If you want someone with good English spelling and grammar, expect to pay more for the quality of work.
If you are not too bothered then paying less for lower quality work and editing the content slightly yourself, maybe the best option.

I forgot all about this thread. Well, if you still need a writer contact me, I can't pm yet. I am currently getting my doctorate in Linguistics so my writing level is high (we are expected to write for academic journals). Of course, I will be able to "dumb it down" to your needs.
Odesk so far for writers with one exception has been horrible for me. awful english, than I even point out mistakes and they insist thats how it needs to be lol. I am sure you will find some but nothing around $1-2/words will be easy to find and you will end up with awful writers. Check there scores, they try to trick you :
- check spelling scores - often you see 80-9x% ...
but then check the basic english skill test and you will get the point. when actually using the language and you cannot find the answer by copy and paste in google they suck..
so have them give you a sample because a lot of them wont even bother to write an awesome article for that and you can already see they suck. if the sample is good have thme write 200 words or so on something random to see if they are still good. last but not least write on skype. if it takes them long to answer , chances are they use google translate. good luck
