Post Panda Links - what works now & what doesnt

So, many of us have been hit hard by the various Panda updates. (More on the way too...)
Even legitimate sites that are not doing anything black hat, such as ecommerce sites etc....

So my question (and one im sure many others on here are also thinking about) is: What works - post panda - and what doesnt?

For example we know that spun text doesnt really work now as duplicate text is highly targetted by Google now, so mass articles using spun articles simply dont work any more like they used to.

Blog comments also appear to have been devalued, as have profile links.

Im not sure about quality web 2.0 links they seem to be possibly still ok, (although not if linked together with an obvious footprint patern such as in a linkwheel)

So what are you currently having success with, and what are you finding isnt working any more....

Perhaps we can help each other ride this out.

I guess the methods need not change, the quality needs to. Pre-panda we have been used to hammering the shit out of AA blogs, get thousands of profile links etc.

Post Panda, it's more about diversifying your backlinks. No single method will work as good as a combo of everything. In spite of linkwheels leaving an evident footprint, I haven't heard of any customers losing SERP rankings or being slapped by Go*ogle, as long the linkwheel is good in quality.

Onsite SEO, design and content's importance has grown significantly past few months and IMHO that is the best way ahead.

Blog, and profile links can still be used, but do not carry the same value or weight that they used to....

Paid links won't ever result in a slap from the Big G... come on now. If that were the case, you could pay for backlinks to competitors and have them removed off of Google.

It's great to say but where is the proof that this is the case. I'm not disagreeing with you but I'm still seeing results with spun content when it comes to backlinks improving my serps.

I imagine if I had 1000 unique articles with backlinks to my site and compared it to 1000 spun articles with them all hosted on the same sites than I would say that you're probably right.

The issue that arises though is the 1000 unique articles worth the price?

I would venture to say that when you compare price vs results the spun articles would have a better return.

I've been creating buffer sites with unique quality content, many of which are ranking for long tail keywords on the first page. What I'm not seeing is much of a SERP improvement for the keyword I'm using to backlink to my site.

My guess is that it's still a numbers game where unique quality content gives a slightly better boost to the backlink but not enough to justify tons of unique quality content being used for backlinks.

The impression that I am getting is that authority seems to be a bigger factor now. This comes from a lot of link diversity and a larger quality site relative to other sites in the same niche.

Blog comments and profile links have been steadily on the decline. AMR submissions also seems to be on the decline but I'm still trying to gauge the full effect it may or may not have on SERPs.

One thing that I have noticed is that newer sites are having a harder time ranking than they used to. It's taking longer to build them up. At least for medium competition keywords.

Bottom line, don't focus on just one method. Add everything to your repertoire. That includes blog comments, profile links, article submissions to public and paid networks, homepage PR links, web 2.0, social networks, etc. And make them multiple levels deep to help build authority for your buffer sites.

Spun articles may not have taken a killing blow, but with the trend that the algorithm is following it won't be long. Invest in unique, quality content. At the end of the day, that's what G wants so that's what G is gonna get.

I have too but it's usually a temporary dance. In the world of SEO a+b does not always = c

This can be attributed to so many things and it doesn't necessarily mean that it's all related to the spun articles. I've been submitting mass articles and I see some sites go up, some go down, and some do nothing. Newer sites tend to see the most dramatic changes.

A mistake I see people making is not varying up things enough. Don't just blast the same keyword anchor text to one page. Vary the keywords up and the links. Typically I take a lot of links from my site and buffer sites and use all different kinds of keywords.

I then spread these over multiple AMR blasts for better results and less dancing. This way I get evenly distributed links among a lot of pages with different keywords over a longer period of time.

Don't look for a magic bullet. SEO is a game of time and perseverance.

That's what G wants to use to rank high but that doesn't mean that the benefit you can achieve from spun article backlinks isn't still viable.

I'm so sick of all this Panda crap. What doesn't work is what should have never worked in the first place (super spammy links). IMHO if your site is not providing value it should not be #1 in Google. By all means use mediocre or even low quality sites to push your main site up, but have at least ONE great site for the topic you cover. You make autoblogs with stolen content and expect to rank #1? Really?

Spun content works and it will ALWAYS work. The reason some people say it doesn't work is that they don't know how to spin properly or they generate way too many spins from a seed which results in low uniqueness.

Sorry.... Who has made autoblogs? I have never used an auto blog in my life, if you take the time to climb down off that silly high horse of yours you might realise that this thread is about pooling information to help us "all" stay one step ahead of the Google game.

And maybe you should use the search function instead of starting 100 threads on the same topic.

Chill out, I wasn't attacking you. About autoblogs it was general for all because many that complain about panda have autoblogs. And about the thread there are already many and I don't see the point from an organizational perspective.
