Hi,I don't know whether this is the correct section to post but could someone provide some help regarding the steps needed before i start a website?

I have read The Complete Guide to Starting a Website by LukaB

But i currently have no idea what i should name my website or what i should host on my website.

Thank you.

Well i was hoping that i could create something myself as i have done some html coding in the past , what i wanna know is how do i find niche keywords to put on my websites and also what content to post on my website

Well for a domain name you should choose something relevant to your niche and you should try to use wordpress very noob friendly

Yea but how do you find out niches?

Perhaps you should start out with a free blogger such as wordpress or blogger. Sure, it won't be a custom domain, but at least you get your first start at mannaging a website.

Well choose something find an area in something you maybe already have knowledge in do some keyword research with google keyword tool make sure you do an exact search and target a keyword with roughly 1000 exact matches for your first website this should get you started.

Do you mean something like this going to adwords and searching for something like movies? and under global monthly searches it has to be around 1000?

Yes exactly even try ranking some long tail keywords.

It depends on what your aspirations are. Do some introspection and answer a few questions on what you want your site to become.

1) Facebook, ehow and wikipedia too are websites. and then there are niche and micro niche websites. It entirely depends on what you are planning to do, are you aspiring to become a big fish in a small pond, or a small fish (with the ability to grow) in a big pond.

2)Depends on your interests. You can check adwords or get a niche finder, and find out some micro niche like 'white gold diamond jewelry', but you might not have an iota of interest in that topic, then in such a case will you outsource the articles, do you have funds to continuously outsource articles and other things? Else you can take a bigger niche which interests you and about which you have very good knowledge and do the basics right and provide quality content. There is no way that google will ignore you if you do everything right.

My suggestion would be to wipe the slate clean and plan what you are going to do all by yourself. Here are a few guidelines for that.

1) Short list 5 things that interests you the most.
2) Write down all the words/phrases related to that 5 interests
3) Go to your google keyword tool/niche finder tool and check all the words/phrases for local search.
4) Eliminate all the words/phrases which have very few searches (may be less than 1000/2000)
5) In the filtered list, find out the words that have a potential to sell. For example 'how to make a salad' kind of searches will get your visitors who will not pay anything whereas a keyword like 'zinc supplement' will get you visitors who will buy and also lot of advertisers competing for advertising.
6) You keep refining the words, once you are down to 3-5 go to godaddy and check for domain availability and look out for exact match domain name.
7) Build a website, easiest way is building a wordpress site.
8) Write content, as the site that you created belong to your area of interest, you will naturally find it interesting to collect more info and build your site.
9) By now you should be knowing what all things should be done to improve the seo of your site. do all that is needed.
10) Once your site is well indexed, then start selling of things as there will be advertisers/lot of affiliate programs.

All the best.

You can read through these posts- the first two are a little dated, but the process is the same. Between the three of them you should be able to identify some good niches.
