.de site ranks only in google.com!?

I have a German website with lots of backlinks from different countries etc.
For its main keyword it ranks on site 2 in Google.de but on place 1 in Google.com ...

Has anyone of you ever seen something like this?
Now I'm thinking about moving the website to a German host...

Help appreciated

Absolutely. I have .com sites which rank better in my local search engines (.com.au and .co.nz) and .com.au and .co.nz sites which rank better in google.com than their respective local search engines! Not sure why!

Yes but that doesn't really answer the question since they're all english speaking countries... why they fare better in other search engines is still a mystery to me

u can open webmaster account tell google that ur targeted audience is german.

what's the extension of your domain? .de or .cnobi ?

and in case you havent done it yet, change your target audience in google webmaster tools to german ^^

I should note my .com site is showing up in google.co.nz for a keyword which is not targetted by anyone with a nz TLD domain extension

Domain extension is .net - none of my competitors has a .de domain.
It's VERY strange since most of my other domains (.com mostly) have high rankings in Google.de and the backlink structure is pretty similar which means that around 80% of their backlinks come from English sites.

Just noticed that another German website of mine achieved top rankings in Google Hungary... sometimes it all doesn't make too much sense lol
