Selling on FLIPPA is a NIGHTMARE.

I've sold 3 sites there: one for $3k one for $450 and one for $115 and everything went well.

You and about 100 other wannabies.

The sad truth that people don't realise is that there's more to running a successful marketplace than having a half-arsed script running on your server and a few forum accounts to spam your ads to the IM community.

What you need is BUYERS. And Flippa have them. End of story.

Once upon a time, Flippa had no buyers, it was a start-up like any other site, competing with eBay in some respects. Let the Dannotrade site and others like it attempt to repeat the process of generating a sea of buyers. Yes, a script is not enough, but failing to suggest constructive ways to get the traffic to become a viable rival is not enough either.

A good start for an alternative site would be to notify Flippa members disgruntled with the price gouging about the new site, through forums, lists, and the like. Getting up funds to launch an offline media campaign (think of Quibids) might be another. Setting up a social media community about this topic could be another. Finding other ways to locate the market for people who want an auction-only/no-gouging flipping site is clearly job one for the site owner, but if the market demand is there, the rival could succeed.

The key issue is auction format versus indian giving. The reason auction format is supposed to be an alternative way to sell is, it should not have to require one to pay a fee to post, as an ad placement requires, nor to pay a final value fee on the back end. eBay started that way and built its audience with few or no fees, then added the fees on both ends (even though the biill comes later). Flippa has gone a similar path, adding or increasing fees to the point where the "auction" is merely a disguised traditional ad. Some true alternative should be created to see if demand exists for a purer auction site, just build its buyer base using the same methods eBay and Flippa did.

On Flippa,
When I sell, buyers never pay
When I buy, all fake screenshots

When I'm not too busy fucking 10 out of 10 models and making tons of cash, I'll call my people and arrange the creation of the Flippa Killer.

In all seriousness, I got some good ideas that can be used to market a domain selling auction site. Now.. if only I had 10k to invest.

PM me and I will fill you in on a few sites that sell for back end instead of upfront.I have been hard lately because I see alot of guys saying stupid thing. You(the OP) is not one you just have not looked hard enough.I agree flippa is going to loose ground because of changing the rules.Charging at the backend even if its more is better because if you do not sell you loose no money.

You are right, I haven't done my research on a viable Flippa alternative. Albeit, I don't use Flippa often but when I do I always get pissed and either want to make nasty comments about them or I want to create a website to rival them. Regardless, a PM is headed your way.

It was way easier to sell sites on Flippa back in 2009. I see nowadays it's way harder, and they buy less as well (the buyers). It's still possible though if you have a decent site. If your site is typical another SEO-affiliate site, it prob wont do well, unless if it has profit already

Flippa Sucks! They have become Evil!!!!!!!!

Im with mister Google Most Wanted.... we can/should start a new better version of Flippa. Owned by BHW!

Lets pool together and all invest a a $100, in return for a share.

We split everything, and point a head man for the money, for the site design and development and a head man for SEO and one for SEM/Marketing/Branding.

100 people each investing $100 every month for the next 5 months, and we will rank number for the main keywords.

We can can bank HARD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!....

Between us all, with all the skills and a healthy $10K monthly budget ... WOOOW!

Lets just agree NEVER to become EVIL!... Our prices will stay the same... like 5% of the final price, and no listing fee, but you need to make a deposit or something to filter out scammers and noobs.

Edit: LoL maybe I am a little bit too keen :o

I don't understand what you are saying to be honest.

What I am saying is when I'm selling a website on Flippa, I have a winning bidder and he/she never pay. No answer to email, no nothing.
And when I bid on a website and win it, all the attached documents proving traffic and/or revenue are all fake, coming from another site adsense revenue, another GA traffic graphs, etc....
Hope this helps to understand...

Fyi on the Escrow/Paypal scammer thing. Both Escrow and Paypal can cause you to be scammed if a buyer does a chargeback or complaint after site transfer.

The reason is because of electronic delivery. If you force the buyer to receive the winning site on a CD you are now in the realm of physical delivery and scammers will run away. So, offer to deliver the site on CD, pay the $5 or $10 and ship to their physical address. Keep your receipts/tracking # data, etc, and if they do a chargeback/scam you will win because you have proof that it was shipped.

JC.

ps. I don't do site auctions personally.

What you need is site flipping network. A network for people to list their sites for sale and then provide feeds so other Flippa clone sites can pull the data to sell on their site. A single auction can be held across multiple seller sites. The selling site can charge whatever they want.

Well that's not true. Flippa was a spin off from SitePoint which already had a huge member base and established marketplace. It was never really a "start up" however their marketing team want to spin it.

The only way I see someone competing with Flippa is by leveraging a user base from an existing forum (DP, WF, BHW) into a marketplace.

Starting from scratch with no rep is just going to be an uphill struggle in my opinion.

Boehoehoehoe Flippa sucks, Flippa ask to much money, Flippa this, Flippa that...... please if you don't wanna pay the fees then don't pay the fucking fee's, go do something else like washing cars or something.....

If you can't make money on Flippa then you have no business being there in the first place, i really don't care about the fee's because i see them as a investment to earn a lot of money... Because if you're smart and not a cry baby like the OP the "high" fee's should not be a problem....

I hope they raise the fee's some more to whip out the last portion of the cry baby competition like the OP, the more of you people that are gone, crying their eyes out, the more money i will be making even with higher fee's ;)

Dirty Harry, just shut the fuck up and go play with yourself.

I think you're trying to sell a site which doesn't make hundreds every month in profit.

For flippa, listing fee and other fees comes to $50+ easily.

So flippa clearly isn't a place to sell a site that make $50-100 a month as they would sell for around $600-800 in such a case a fee of $100-$200 seems very unreasonable.

If one has a site which does about $500 a month, it should sell for 5k+ and in such cases, the fee of few hundred $$ would seem negligible.

In a nutshell, flippa is most suitable to only sellers with website that do a minimum of $300-$400 a month.

Very well said.

This was precisely why I was complaining.

It sucks to sell a website that only makes $50 per month and get hit with all these fees.

If one is selling a website making $500 a month, then these fees seem relatively minor.

Go ahead try to play the though guy and start the name calling game, in a poor attempt to hide that you're a cry baby who doesn't understand how to leverage buyers from flippa... i really feel sorry for you... You will never have the plesure of making good money on flippa because you're blinded by the high fee's.

Thank God here are a lot of people like you.....

Now i go back to work because i am done with this pissing match, goodluck with setting up your own website auction site.....

You are such a clown.

YOU started the name calling, and I ended it.

As far as making money on Flippa, I don't NEED to.

I'm making "good money" from auto pilot websites and can careless what the fuck you think!

Flippa is definitely over priced. Anything under $500 I sell on DP with escrow. Anything over that is worth flippa.
