I have been trying to get a website on DMOZ for over 4 years! I keep submitting the websites, per their standards and it is just a simple website... nothing, no indexing. Can anyone help or any ideas?

I did read here were someone suggested becoming a DMOZ editor and using that toward your advantage. There has to be another way.

Thanks

Yeah, I'm an editor too. For a whole city + something even bigger..
I'd try that :D

This is going to probably sound like a cliche'd suggestion but why not start a directory of your own and start building a reputation similar to DMOZ? It won't be an overnight success but I'm sure if you apply yourself to it and the directory becomes quite popular then you could monetize it and even earn some cash on the side. I did that for a while but put it on the backburner as I didn't have enough $$ to spend on promotion.

My site is index by Yahoo, Gloogle and Bing, just not DMOZ. I keep reading that in order for your site to rank, you have to be in DMOZ. My PR still 0, I may as well host the site in the cloud, since my ranking is so way out there!

Lol if you want to fork out $300 and your site isn't even guaranteed a listing...

I never had issues with yahoo Directory.. I think its in the range of $250 or something?? If you are referring to Gambling/Adult sites, then yes there is no guarantee + the high costs.

I submitted my sites to Yahoo and despite not renewing the listing, the sites are still listed there.

On another note, I tried BOTW, but its absolute crap

I thought DMOZ was a big deal until one of my sites got accepted. Looks like quality sites with subtle or no advertising have no problem being accepted if you make a proper description etc while submitting, it just takes some time. With that said, I haven't seen any significant changes in rankings after the DMOZ links with an exact anchor text, so now I could care less.

I dont see any improvement in the SERPs for my sites after being listed at DMOZ though I do agree that the site gets alot of authority after being listed at DMOZ.
