It works on blocks you can place basically where you want. You can also edit the template if needed. So yes you can add in google ads all over it.

I've used ArticleMS as well on past projects, while most of the support is gone it may be hard unless you've worked with code before.

It's not that bad though and can be easily customized if you know what you are doing.

Well it is easy in its stock form thanks to the Blocks functionality. But if you want to customize the site, themes, and advanced functionality there won't be much support.

When I was looking around for Article Directory solutions, ArticleMS was the best one I found. There's also a Wordpress theme/plugin that turns Wordpress into an article directory as well. That may be a good solution for you rather than a traditional article directory cms.

If you are familiar with Wordpress, than the Wordpress one.

If you aren't, then I'd go with ArticleMS.
