Should I buy this domain?

Today I saw that .net and .org version of a famous domain is still available.
However, the website is not a niche specific website.

For example, if squidoo.net was still available, would it have been a viable option to buy this domain? Please suggest.

you could have trademark issues.

if you build a site that they consider infringement they could take your domain or at worst sue you.

maybe buy it and just park it.

if you were to buy it, to have a better chance of keeping it in case of copyright issues you should purchase it from http://www.internetbs.net/

they will not give you up as easily as someone like godaddy would.

I'd be cautious, check on trademarks first.

As another member has mentioned, parking it really isn't a bad idea as most companies wouldn't really think twice about a parked page versus a completely built out website.

How would you plan to monetize that site? If you get ranked #2 you can be sure you're going to get a letter from a lawyer so organic SEO is not a viable long term option.

I have talked with my Indian hosting provider. They have clearly said that they won't deactivate the domain even if they receive a legal notice from the site, or even from any US court. They will deactivate the domain only if they receive a notice from an Indian High Court, or the Indian Supreme Court.
So, I am quite safe.
