hello guys. this may be a very noob question but how do you calculate keyword density?

i just read an ebook that states that google would penalize your site if the keyword density is over 6% so i am a little paraniod.

thanks

It might be a noob question - but it's more intelligent than most asked around here lately.

I personally use a really old program called webposition - it's pretty crap, but does have a useful page critic that calculates density well. Most things that include a page critic will do the job. If you can get the SEO powersuite D/L working (from the downloads section here) it should do it.

I find that density of 2-3% works well, as long as the keyword is in the first and last sentence on the page.

It's not really hard to calculate.. I mean if your article is 100 words long and your keyword is in there twice, you have 2% from what I saw using SEOPressor.

What I find hard is to reach this 2 to 3% with keyword phrases. I mean finding a place to add it once is not a problem.. but 5 times in a 500 words article... now that's a problem

You'll find 2-4% works but make sure you include the keyword in the title and in H1 headings!

Some people are missing an important point here when calculating KW Densities.

If you want 4% KW Density and your KW is 2 WORDS long then you should note it TWICE and not 4 times.

Think of it that way. If your KW is 4 WORDS LONG and the article is also 4 WORDS long and you had your KW mentioned ONCE, will that be a 100% KW DENSITY or 25% KW Density? (Surely 100% KW density)

Hope I helped.
