Creating an event to make money

Has anyone else tried to make money for an event by creating a "fake" event to make money with a niche blog and then using something like Chipin to ask for donations? I'm trying this to get money for a trip to Europe later this year.

Chipin to ask for donations? Are you kidding me? Get real, this is complete fraud, and don't do it, rather do something else but don't ask for donations and use it for yourself.

How much are u making urself right now ?can you please exaplain how are u gonna organise the trip and how the donaters are benefitted using this trip ?what value can u provide to ur donator ?

people will not go on a trip with someone from BHW or any unknown person to europe and think that they will make money or will be provided with somne secret trick to make money

u need to have some rep and credibility before u even think abt such thing

this is what u wrote at first --- by my knowledge of english languge ----its simply scamming people by sellking them entry to an event which is never gonna happen

remove such things from ur mind before u get into some serious trouble

I'm not creating a fake event to scam people. I'm creating a real event and making a documentary about something,to bring attention to it. I'm just not doing it for artsy purposes,I'm doing it to get a free trip. I should have waited until i had some coffee before creating the thread.

Update 6/7/10

I haven't gotten anyone to donate yet, but i did get a follower on blogger so i'm going to create a trailer for the documentary and see how it goes. I think if i get a video out on you tube and market it there I should be able to get donors

It might benefit the OP to research how real event planners successfully develop events for causes or politicians, and how they get paid. You could develop quite a rep for putting on lucrative fundraisers or anniversary gatherings. Most planners take a set fee, so if you charged a percentage of the gross or net revenue for your services, you might have an advantage over others in the business.

I'm actually doing a documentary and not an event. I thought of it as an event at first,but its better to spin it as a documentary. :18:

I don't know how to say this and don't disappoint you mate but that won't work at all. In fact everybody think that you are a fool for even considering such a thing.

The quickest money u can get for your trip to Europe is to be a little creative and sell some creativity on Fiverr. You can use every skill you have and try to earn from it. Scale it up, and in a month you'll have some basic fundings for your trip.

If you don't get enough money, buy some LSD and have a trip around the World, The Universe, the green fields next by a small river under the rainbow...

Try Kickstarter.com there's plenty of people getting money for their crappy documentaries.
