How do I get on the #1 spot with Adwords?

Say my budget is unlimited. Do I just go to manual bids and bid $100 a click and choose option speedy delivery?

Or if I just leave it on auto bid (which states will give me the most clicks for my money) and have an unlimited daily budget will this get me fixed in the #1 spot?

If there are 5 positions in Adwords in Google, you have to make your bid higher than all 5 to be no.1

Daily budget have no impact to your Ads positions, but with higher budget you'll get better impressions.

My Advice..

1. Optimize your Ads until get QS - 10/10..
(Get this value by creating 'title', 'description' & 'url' of your Ads that are very relevant with your 'landing page' and your 'keyword'.

2. Set bid from small price (i.e $0.10 - $1.00) and raise up your bid until you get no warning about your price in order to reach first page position.

3. After your ads show on 1st page for your targeted keyword, you need to play again with your bid to reach TOP POSITION.

When workin on a new campaign, the first thing you should work on is CTR. Forget the position if you are looking to get low CPC and good ad position.

Even if its #3 position and you have a CTR of 20%. Your CPC will go low and QS will boost and from there its easy boosting the CPC to get top positions.

Thats how I'd do it if I were in your position.

PS - a small tip - having your major traffic keyword in your domain name helps a lot to secure top position with low click costs.

Make sure your on page seo is related to the keyword you are bidding for + as already mentioned it helps if keyword is in domain name, this will all help for a high QS. Mention privacy policy on the page as well, G likes that.

OK been getting a little confused using adwords. I understand QS so far I have 7/10 as with all new ads which is better than the 6 beazt recommended. I'm sure this will go up also the main KW is in the title, ad, url display and actual URL. The landing page is also SEO'd for the KW on and off page.

The KW I'm bidding on is really specialized for topic and location - only 500 searches a month. I don't think the competition is much at all. I just would like to always be in the top position.

I've read through adwords help and tutorials which all seem the same to me.

I left my max bid blank - so unlimited and set daily budget to a ridiculous number considering this term only has 500 searches a month. So shouldn't I be in the top position all day since that would get me the most clicks for the budget inputted?

Manual bidding - says the higher you bid the higher you page position will be. If I input $100 max bid, will I actually pay $100 per click or will adwords just make me pay a little more than the next highest bidder?

Both instances above should lead my ad to the top position according to adwords help articles. Am I missing something here?

How old is this campaign? QS can NOT be determined in a day or a week. Its a aggregate of your keyword performance over a long duration. Lets say 2 to 3 weeks on avg. Dont feel too relaxed seeing the instant figures.

Try to improve the quality of your landing page too. It's not only about the text content but too about how long do your page take to load, how long your visitor stay on the page, do your page respect some HTML and CSS standards. Google Quality rank score goes deeper than keywords. I remember creating some campaign with 0.10cents/clicks and 20% CTR on a famous keyword because my website was very good quality compare to challengers.

Let's say for example you're selling dogs. Do you set up an ad group for:

Black Dogs

Title - Black Dogs Rock
Desc - Get your black dogs here

KWs - Black Dogs, Big Black Dogs, Black Dogs for Sale

landing page - send to black dog optimized page

I run mostly adult campaigns so I'm sure it carries over there, but I'm thinking of trying to really optimize my campaigns so 95% of my KW's are 8+ QS.

I'd love to run some adwords campaigns in non-adult, but man every time I try I get so boggled. I never know what product to promote, or even what TYPE of product. I don't know if I should sell camping gear or software ... jewelry or clothing. Baseballs or Baseball Games. In adult it's at least pretty straightforward, you sell memberships to adult sites, and simply choose the niche.

Wow, I'm veering off-topic a bit. I guess I'm just rambling because I recently shut off my Adwords campaign due to some shady shit from the affiliate program I was promoting, so trying to reboot it and feeling that lost feeling again =/ Any help would be tremendous. Adwords is my biggest source of sales until I can finally get rankings from my SEO projects.. ugh

That doesn't say adult is banned. Although those rules are much tighter than when I started, which leads me to believe it's only a matter of time until they're fully banned. That's why I want to learn non-adult ppc, asap
