So ok, I was just able to purchase 2 expired domains. I don't know how they slipped through the auction system without anybody noticing them.

They are both 8 years old and have back links from high PR very old sites.

They are also highly desirable keywords, so I figured why not.

So here's my questions....

1) Is there any way to find out what the subpages were before? I'm thinking about trying to rebuild it with the same urls if they have high PR and backlinks too.

2) Is there any way to find out the old keywords they used to rank for? I've heard something about there possibly being some kind of archive of old sites that have expired.

3) If I didn't really want to work on the sites right now and sold links off of them, what do those usually go for?

Thanks

Did you check if the domains have been drop?

What do you mean been drop?

The only information I've found on them so far is their age, page rank and I got their list of backlinks.

hmmm I can't seem to find it. I'm pretty familiar with alexa, but I don't think I've ever seen the archive before. Do you have the URL for it?

Also, did you check with the info: search operator whether the PR is real?

Authorise the site in google webmaster tools.
Submit a sitemap, even if there is only an index page.
Once googe has crawled you will see in the menu (Diagnostics > Crawl Error) a list of URLs which have not been found and also where the inbound link is.

#mrdexter give best suggestion. After you have all links inside, try find cache on google. Then you can use h**p://wayback.archive.org/web/ as referred by #pocketaces if it can't be found on Google caches.

I checked a couple page rank checkers to get those PR#s, but I'm not sure how to see if they are fake or not.

Also, the archive.org had some of what I was looking for. One of the sites just seemed to be a 302 redirect everytime, yet that was the PR5...

I also got hold of a domain, I was just randomly researching. To my surprise that domain was an expired one with a lot of pages indexed already. Probably the guy forgot to get it renewed or something.

Later only did I realize that domain has been penalized. and i wont be able rank even on top 10 pages while I have almost all my sites and my client sites among top pages of google. (micro sites)

Still not sure how long that penalty will take, maybe i need to take out some time and dig deeper about what the issue could be.

Please NEVER blame on low quality links as I know they dont matter when it comes to penalty etc. It can be the content (dups, low quality etc) other reason sans backlinks.

If it was 302 redirect everytime, check to make sure it is not fake PageRank. Also, be prompt in taking action... Too long, and Big G will start dropping PR of the domain.

Particularly if the pages are not in the index anymore, I'm afraid it may have been done... You just need to check the next PR update to see if it is so.

lol now you guys have me worried.

I have to wait up to 10 days for them to show up in my account... I'm a pessimist so I'll assume for now that they have lost the PR. However, they do still have good relevant back links and are 8 years old.

So in that sense I guess I'm starting out ok with them.

Put this in Google search box:

info:domain.com and it will tell you if there is a redirect in place or not...

And wayback can be useful to check how the domains/sites looked like once.

You can check it with who.is where you can see if your domains have been drop. If that the case, then will you lose the benefit from the age of your domain.

It usually happens if a domain transfer is visible to google.

set it up with googles webmaster tools, then after you built it, submit a reconsideration request and explain you just bought it, there pretty nice..

It is a solution. But the problem is that you will lose the benefit of buying an aged domain, because you notify G. that the domain is new to you.

not really i have domains that are 5 years old that i never set up with webmaster tools and just because you do it doesnt mean its brand new
