I am a newbie and trying to come up with something innovative. So, here is my plan (and the questions):

We all know Google Translate is actually pretty good. When I read a French or German text translated into English, I find it completely legible (ignoring few mistakes here and there). So, the opposite must also be true! What if we translate English articles into French or German and then make a blog out of it? Can it rank in Google France or German versions. What is the scope of this idea?
Any thoughts?

this method is well known to get unique content, and for you question, Yes you can rank on G French or German

I known as secret from the gurus before, glad you know it now.

Yes it will absolutely work. Many doing this already. Make sure you use appropriate anchors when link building. ie. if you are trying to rank in germany your anchor text should be written in german.

lots of potential but you need to find niches that are broadly appealing to an international audience.

Even better, translate an article from English to French. Then translate the French article back to English and you have a whole new article!

yeah, welcome to 1998; don't waste your time - it will take you an hour to get a single semi-decent article (post) and you might as well write it yourself and it will be 100% unique

I have looked into this far deeper than probably 99% of the people here - I even found a script that was doing this automatically (it was in Python, probably found it here or on another forum), but you will still have to put a lot of work and you will get dismal results

You might as well grab 100 articles from ezine, toss them in the best spinner, and add them to your site - the "quality" will be the same and it will take far less time

just my 2c, but you don't have to take my word for it

wp robot can use this technique on autopilot.

I got ranking #37 for ~4k exact searches without building a single backlink. Nothing special, i know but it works a tiny bit with autoblogs.

just going to throw a suggestion out there without making it completely obvious:

Domain names

yes it will work but if words realy go wrong people would go in the wrong impression that u fucking dnt know ur language.

I read this idea a few times before, honestly never looked too deep, I believe it could work.

Yea, the form wouldnt be exactly correct. The grammer and style might be off and people would notice. It could work to drive some traffic, but it would take a lot of time to do over and over.

It may work and rank well but when you get the traffic coming in and try to convert a offer it'll probably look like bs to them because that's their native language. It's still worth a try though.

They have 493753 servers (figuratively speaking), indexing most of the web. How hard would it be to set up 500 of them to monitor the translator and keep a copy of the result to use it as a reference to help a dupe filter for new content? Wikipedia is already doing it with a lot less resources. In fact I wouldn't be surpised if they are using already existing sentences for the translated version, in effect outputing dupe stuff.

But it doesn't matter, all search engines are interested in good content, even it is simply translated from another language. What matters however is that the content must be good in order to stay on top for a reasonably long time. Which means that you will have to spend lots of time fixing the translation. Possibly more than simple manual rewriting.

I would rather get some non english sites convert to English instead of getting English to languages that I dont know.

The idea seems very well, you can do it as many people must be doing it already but yes you should be careful while you use proper anchors while making up your links. Go ahead!
