There are always the likelyhood of someone trying to "move" to you anywhere in London; you just decrease the chances of such happenings by staying close to areas such as "Central London" (W1, NW1, W2, Hyde Park etc.) if you're a tourist.

From my knowledge watching "Gangland", you don't just go to a park in Inglewood, CA and think you will come out in one piece. There are areas that tourists just shouldn't be entering.

ive spent 4years in London and never had any trouble,check out timeoutdotcom/london or even gumtree for partyplaces/gallery/events/gigs/whatever you into,there are a lot of free options as well.I bet there will be CL afterparties as well.If you have money go to mayfair/chelsea for chicks,go to east-end area for trance-techno party,camden-town for punk-rock.For good restaurants/gastro pubs go to west london.If you are looking for hot aussie/kiwi chicks (they just LOVE accents)go to a Walkabout bar
And try not to look like a tourist (this applies to any city in the world )

Contrary to popular belief we don't all speak as if we are uneducated, counterfeit crip/yardie/eastenders.
The preconceived ideas people make about areas without actually visiting
only serves to perpetuate the fallacies.
Brixton is a multicultural tourist area thriving with activity 24 hours a day.
You are just as likely if not more to be mugged walking around Soho late at night.
Why would anyone want to go walking around estates unless to visit
someone is beyond the realms of my comprehension.
I could take you to estates in W1, NW1 and W2 that are as bad as any estate in the country.
I've been to California, New York, Miami, Kingston Jamaica and no I don't
book in Holiday Inn I stay in local guest houses, eat where the locals eat and
drink where the locals drink and drive round in a second hand car.
If you want to dress in a white polo shirt and Gingham shorts with a camera
round your neck, map in hand asking directions every 2 minutes stick to the
tour buses but if you really want to experience a place you've got to be able to mix.
You never see Brixton or Shepherds Bush on Street Crime Uk or Boozed up Britain but you'll see the West End on there every week.
To be honest Peckham and Hackney have not got a lot going for them to
want to visit unless you want to buy African or Asian cosmetics in bulk.
But don't be put off anywhere. At least you won't get ripped of by tourist
prices.

You must be living in the cruel belief that any media would report shootings and murders in areas with a consistent level of crime. You think Channel 4 news would even put 5 minutes of their air time about a killing in Harlesden or Peckham? Let alone the newspaper would give a rats arse about some black-on-black crime. It happens, and it happens every day. Did you hear about the guy who got popped at 4-5pm in the middle of the street in Shepherds Bush?

There are gangs and they are all over London. I know about estates with fancy post codes. Unfortunately the government has not gotten rid of these human trashbags infesting the real workforce of the country.

I'm from NW - How many CCTV monitors you see around them roads, Shephers Bush for example? They can't make a show without CCTV footage, so obviously Central London would be a perfect area to show entertainment footage of people having scuffles and people getting shift.

What the media portrays and the reality of areas as the one you're living in is far and beyond.

Love all the stereo typing here! I left London 10 years ago thank f*ck and it was the best thing I ever did. 90% of it is a toilet. There are no Brits left there as far as I know. You'll probably meet more Americans than Brits, oh no wait, they'll be lots of Scots and Northerners looking for work. Oooo more stereo typing!

I'm in Putney Friday night visiting friends, which isn't too bad a place for a night out. Stick to the tourist areas and see the sights and you'll have a great time. I married a Russian, trust me you don't want to know what I think about British women. Hook up with some Russian girls, then you'll know what a good time is really about and they love Americans, no they really do!

I've noticed the English seem to really push drinking alcohol a lot. It's almost like a central thing in their life. Most countries can take it or leave it.
