I know we've got a lot of UKers on BHW (I'm an American), and I was wondering if I could get some London-specific advice. I'm thinking about going to London next weekend to celebrate the Champions League Final (no tix, just going to experience the craziness). I already got a hostel booked (deposit was minimal) because they were filling up fast.

Anything I should specifically avoid while I'm there? Also, does a Yankee stand any chance with those classy British women:D?

Depends where you're going to go.

High end places: maddox, china white, vendome, movida, alto etc. - No chance unless you have constant sparklers running to your table (magnum bottles and above). Even a magnum goose at 600 GBP (incl. mixers + 10% service) could get you a few cats on the hook

More international crowd would be like 'walkabout' (australian bar) or whatever those places are called. Don't frequent them.

You having luck with a london bird...I think they absolutely despise accent that's foreign to them, even scottish. If you got game maybe you're alright then...I just know a lot of them girls will shut you off in a blink of an eye if you sound yank or like a fob.

Of course if you roll deep in the big clubs then you can get the paper-chasers ;) The ones that wanna have a good time and will look past your accent and deeper into your wallet.

Good luck on that mate.

For places you want to avoid: (Stay in Central is the safest).
Don't start running off to Brixton, Peckham, Shepherds Bush, Hackney and those areas that are populated with lots of estates and drug dealers.

classy british women??
theres none of them here mate

Personally i cant stand London, i live "up north" and London is far to busy and expensive

To maximize a short trip, it's worth getting on the open-top double-deck bus tours. You can get on/off all day, and they take you to all the must-see sites. Also consider a multi-day London Transport pass.

Nice man, i heard they will have screens outside Wembley... former UK - living expat now #MUFC

Used to live in Seven Sisters. Dude, don't go to London, the girls are ugly there.
If you're going to gamble try out fox poker club (needs a registration before 24 hours).

The fuck is wrong with hackney?

Well I'm from Walthamstow/East London and got to say myself, those areas aren't the best for a yank to visit alone. There's enough muggings and stabbings of locals, let alone tourists.
Why the hell no one stabbed me then? Whenever I used to feel tired of working at pc, I used to take a walk in my neighbourhood or those around. For like couple hours, in the night. Not a single time I've been jumped. In South Tottenham, Hackney or Walthamstow.

Wow, there are a lot of paranoid people here!

London is great XG911. After the match head into central London via Wembley tube station and you can't fail to find something to suit you.

As for the girls, well is depends on you really. I don't think an accent will put them off, there are people from all over the world in London.

Have fun, I'm sure you will love it here.

Lots of great tips, thanks guys! It's going to be crazy, let's hope for MUFC victory.

London is my home time and a great place to visit. Check out the clubs and pubs in Camden including the market.

The great thing about London is that its full of international people so lots of euro chicks from France/Spain/Italy/Sweden and all over the world in London.

You will have a great time!

Stay in the centre of London, stay away from south, east london. Only go into large brand public houses or night clubs. Eat only in fast food establishments as everything else is to expensive. Try a curry top notch. Steer clear of the following drinks bitter, stout, real ale they all taste like shit. British women if you have enough money you have pulled.
Go to hyde park, check out tate modern lots of women at both places during the day and both free. Enjoy our public transport its one of the most expensive in the world.
Dont talk to th english you should be fine.

Most of all try a full english breakfast

Fish & Chips... anyone??? Could never find the same texture and batter recipes anywhere I've travelled like that of the UK's

5VM5UN6: Maybe you haven't been moved to because people recognize your face, but you can get clocked as a yank from far by locals and you're by far an easier target than a local, so stay away from Hackney unless you're black and roll deep. WTF you going to do in Hackney anyway?

googlemonster: Depends which airline ;)

mattbowden knows what he's talking about.
