what's a good host these days besides gator & bluehost

i personally use hostwinds, i got his top level VPS and its very stable :P plus he's always around to call either on skype or on the phone if you need anything :P

I haven't gone wrong using ThisWebHost or MediaTemple. Pretty reliable, although MT can be costly if you're just starting out.

Hostwinds. Hands down best service I have had and I have gone through 5 hosting companies.

i have few BIG VPS plans for sale on my own servers
nice prices & very big specs
PM me if ur interested ;)

compared to hostwinds hostgator sucks donkey balls.

I have had hostgator, dotster, fatcow and a couple others.. try hostwinds shared and you will be impressed. I can't wait untilt hey sart offering windows vps!

I've been with downtownhost for a long time and never had any problems. They also always have 50% off coupons.

I am testing Lunarpages now (client site). So far so good. Still a little early on to say for sure.

The one who offer a wide range of web hosting solutions and have a large experience in hosting industry need to be considered. In the United States tons of web hosts available, so it is bit like choosing one rich tomato from bucket. Researching and comparison is the best part :)

right now i have hostables, hostgator, doteasy, and thrust (vps) at the same time. for some reason, not by choice, i keep preferring hostgator above the rest

I have tried a couple, but would stick with hostgator,if your content is legit :) you wont find their service and support anywhere else.

Well, most of the people defines good host as the hosting provider who offers services at cheap prices. However, a good web host is judged by looking their various aspects such as low cost, yet reliable service, at least 99.95% uptime guarantee SLA, customer support via live chat, phone and email, mostly supported scripting languages by servers, scalable, flexible and most importantly should understand the importance of your business website. There are many other things to look out when choosing a good web hosting provider. However, most of the people considers only the cost factor.

I use fazewire for some smaller sites. Cheapest hosting around, around $3 a month for cheapest plan, and service is unbeatable. Not too many customers so I get fast replies and help.

One thing I haven't done yet but have been thinking about is signing up for some "green" hosting, I think if you have customers who purchase directly, (and care about this sort of thing), it could help your conversion rates a bit. I checked a few companies, they usually provide a nice "green energy powered" type button to put up on your site.
