Im not wrong, yes they work, but it logs the person out!

In my case there is no problem, because as soon as the user execute the JS, he is redirected to a website (in which there is the gateway) :)

Depends on your aim. If you want to become a good coder: Sure, learn it. If you want to be an internet market: Pay someone to do it.

I started learning html years ago, then had to learn php in order to build a contact form, then had to learn ruby in order to write automated scripts... and so on... nowadays i think to myself "what a waste of time"

If you're saying that, you're not putting that knowledge to good use. Shame really. You shouldn't have to pay anyone at this point.

Javascript is really easy. Once you understand languages like php, learning javascript is easy as well. I suggest #1 would be to learn php and html/css. Then learn enough in javascript to get the job done with the help of google. You don't have to master any 1 language really, just be a jack of all trades and let google help you for what you forget or don't know yet.

nope. learning is good and i never stop learning. but i want to learn things that make fun to me.
sure you can learn everything and never pay anyone to do something for you, but that is not effective.

for example: some years ago i started learning After Effects in order to make a small advertising video. I spent weeks on this piece of software. Sure, now I could do it myself, but I am still paying others to do it because now I know how much time it takes.

Yes,you sure need to,thats the thing which is bruning in facebook nowadays :P

anybody have some good intro books on what is effective with scripts and how to use on FB???

there aren't any books.... this stuff moves so fast that by the time someone will finish a book a method will be outdated and patched.

I didn't even bother to read what everyone else said, but learn what you need to learn. Learn a programming language, and from there, you'll understand whatever you need to know about every other programming language enough to take what someone else has done and do it yourself.

Variables and logic man...

With that said, you can't really alter much with facebook because of javascript. Dream on.

It depends... if you want to earn money from it, then go for it.

If you learn it for your on-going business / do some web project then you better outsource it.
