If you want PPC then i suggest to read some tutorials about Adsense optimization ... how to optimize website to get bigger CTR. ie where to put ads to convert better etc.
If you want real money with this amount of visitors i would go with CPA email/zip submits... If you do it well it convert averagely 10%-15%... and paid mostly between 1$ and 1,6$
Now... you do the math
If you want help, PM me, i got peerfly account and can help you set it up etc. But i will ask at least 15% since i can explain you how to convert best and help you set it up and everything.

I have one under the header/above the post and one in the side bar, I presumed these were the hot spots!

And what are the right ad placements? I thought the ones I'm using were the most popular?

Is it wordpress site?
IF yes, install a wordpress plugin for adsense that can put ads in the start, the middle and at the end of your content on each page.
The plugin is called "quick adsense".
Other than that consider signing up to aweber and build a list and promote them with CPA and hot news etc.

Hey man, thanks!
It is a wordpress site, I'm going to use the quick adsense to manually insert ads into more text heavy longer posts.
Just checking out aweber, I already have a list of e-mails, does it mean that with that site I essentially send out spam to them and earn when each one is clicked on?
What are the best CPA ads/banners to go with?

This is your list. You must treat them with respect. Only send them emails once or twice a week!
DO NOT SPAM THEM!
There are threads about building lists and how to treat them etc.
Use the search button or google.
Basically you just want to send them some hot topics that you think they would want to check out and post a link back to your blog. Then every now and then when you find a good product that you think they would find useful send it to them.

Basically you need to do more research on your own, but you could make some good money. Quality is the main keyword here.

Ok cool got ya.
With the core following I've got on the blog I'd like to dedicate some posts purely with the intention of getting to the #1 spot on Google. Is this easier because I've already got a solid following? How can I find out what topics are worth the most?
I was also ranked #1 for a few Google searches in the past (which lead to a post on my blog) but since these have dropped dramatically. What would the reason be for this?

Good adds depends on content of your sites. You are getting more visitors but still not getting good amounts per day. Try to increase your traffic more. Then you will get more visitors with more earning.

I think you need to do keyword research to find what keyword to target, then write keyword rich articles that are SEO optimized then just post it to you blog.
I have made a few guides on these, if you click my name you can see what threads I have started under statistics.
You can try to use google.com/trends to find out whats currently hot.

Will check out those guides now. I just got the Easy SEO plug-in so going to go through some of the bigger articles and get them totally SEO'd.
Yes, 18-25 I'd say. I blocked the groupon ads because they look really awful (burgers all over the site) but yeah the game ads look great. It's a shame you can only block 50 types of ads on Google. My CTR is really low, which is something I'm working on at the moment. Any tips are welcome!
