So um . . .are we screwed?

I guess what we're saying here is that if you want to make a lot of money going forward, you can. But in order to do so you gotta get with the latest vibe.

Nothing new there of course, but perhaps we are seeing a paradigm shift that alters the vibe more profoundly than anything we've seen for a very long time.

It is how we manage the transition from the past to the future that will make or break the bank.

ps. Anyone got a good ebook on how to make money in the biggest financial meltdown in history...?

I reckon this global recession is needed. Incomes have hardly increased over the decade, and property/land prices, has increased dramatically. There's has been too many people expecting their main house/property/land is worth a mint, and this huge chain reaction in confidence has boosted property's prices to extreme levels. Hopefully this recession brings down prices and improves the lending criteria for banks.

AgentZero's avatar ftw.

So the stock market crashed. Business is still business. People will still need to lose weight. People will still need to stop smoking. People will still gamble. People will still try to get rid of their acne. These people will pay to do so, regardless of what the economy is doing.

So they might not buy that extra Vera Bradley bag, big deal.

Each time I walk into Home Depot and every single person on the sales floor does their best to completely to ignore me, it reminds me of how badly this country needs a good recession.

I'm not so worried. I always think positive, but my father is going mad. He's got about 200k € in stocks. Last month it was +2%. This month only god can know

I really think what has happened here is, rather than a crash, a market correction brought on by over-valued real estate and bad loans.

Now this doesn't mean that things are going to be pretty; they are not but there are ways to profit and I have taken a few moments out from authoring a tome on that very matter to enter this discussion.

Cash will be King for the next few years, incomes taxes will be imposed on the so-called "upper middle class" and the "wealthy"; "wealthy being defined as those who earn more than $250K per year, in misguided efforts to redistribute wealth.

Look for short-term indecision and inactivity on the part of consumers followed by a resurgence of buying in a month or less. Remember, the holidays are coming up and people will relieve a lot of stress through buying.

Speaking of buying, I notice that General Motors, Chrysler and Nextel Sprint are attractive buys when the markets re-open on Tuesday.

Gold is still a good buy with lots of potential but do not buy mining stocks, especially in countries which might nationalise gold mines.

Under no circumstances buy diamonds unless you know what you are doing and then only at 1/3 of true wholesale.

Gas prices will stay down for a while at least until some idiot blows up a loading or offloading facility and then watch out!

Look for significant increases in the cost of natural gas and electricity due to "shortages", especially if we have a cold winter in the USA.

More and more internet marketers will find it necessary to seek shelter for income as internet sales will go up, if for no reason other than the increasing number of failures of brick-and-mortar operations and the ease of internet ordering.

My $.02.

Gas prices will stay down for a while at least until some idiot blows up a loading or offloading facility and then watch out!

This is a good thing that happened after market downfall.

One serious question

More and more internet marketers will find it necessary to seek shelter for income as internet sales will go up, if for no reason other than the increasing number of failures of brick-and-mortar operations and the ease of internet ordering.

On what basis can you tell that internet sales will rise.
I had this question rolling in my mind from a long time, I read and heard people talking that market sales will rise like you did .
On the other hand, so many people are loosing their jobs especially software engineers who use to earn thousands of dollars/month before and presently sitting in home after loosing their jobs and finding it difficult to find a new job.

People will look for ways to "save" money and that means that instead of driving 15 miles to WalMart or Office Depot for new printer cartridges, they will order online and not just hardware but many other kinds of merchandise.

I can point to a fellow I know who owns a coffee shop who has previously had very high sales of unground coffee beans. His sales are plummetting due to more and more of his customers ordering online at less expensive prices.

Within limits, people are wising up to the advantages of internet shopping.

The perception of high gas costs will only accelerate and enhance this process.

IM will grow, while brick-and-mortar will decline.

People will look for ways to "save" money

You may be right.
I heard in news that England Queen is saving money by shutting off her palace lights in the night even though she is walking.

Yes and indeed, "God Save The Queen!" because with the economic situation certainly no one else is going to!

Still judging by your avatar AgentZero, you've got enough to keep you warm at night.... I mean who needs the electric......:D

People will be looking to make more money and save more money.

Help them make more money by having offline seminars. You can turn this "recession" and economic downturn into profit. Theres many ways to profit not but you just might need to be more creative.

I have heard from a source that money is still there at the top . I.E. the 1k plus end .

Far as the little stuff goes people are saying that they are not doing so well .

I personally say phhhttt.

If times get too bad there is one industry that willl do even better in tough times and that is a proven fact!

Alcohol during times of finacial crisis alcohol sells actually jump . So if you have the money invest in the alchol biz in some form or another.

Actually I will be seeing if there is a way to get involved in the alcohol biz online .

what about chocolate, anyone knows if chocolate does well in hard times?

well, i've started brokering bad loans, and believe it or not the hardest part was
trying to get thru to the buyers in my rolodex!

emails bouncing back to me; phones that never got answered; problems with phone calls
not getting thru because there was some trouble with the phone lines; emails not being
responded to; people in meetings...

etc. etc. etc.

it's amazing that these companies can stay in business when they operate like this.

and, as luck would have it, during my many phone calls i serendipitously stumbled upon a
buyer who told me that he was getting over a dozen bad paper leads a week, but he wasn't
interested in defaulted loans at this time. so he'd be happy to refer his prospects to me
for follow up.

can't wait to see how this turns out.
it could be something or it could be nothing...

Also in times of crises you see sex selling a lot more. I wonder if cam sites will do good.

I have never done better. I hope the US econ completly crashes and the US goes into a crazy depression. My US sales this month has been an ALL TIME RECORD. :)

I have no shame in lining my pockets off other ppls misfortunes.
