What do they do with our phone number?

Hello all, I guess you all already saw an iphone/ipad ads once in your life.
I just started to use it, so I was wondering why is the payout so high? And what do they do with the cell number that you submit to get the PIN?

They bill you obscene amounts of money, it's in the fine print. eg. you're agreeing to receive 5 different text messages at $4 each or something like that.

I didn't even know that they can charge you when someone send you a text message.
So if you hate someone, you can send him like 100 text message?

That's the point of the pin confirmation... When you confirm the pin, you're agreeing to a contract with the biller to receive a specified number of commerical texts for a specified cost.

Sending 100 texts to someone would just cost you 100 texts. Signing someone you hate up to a pin submit offer also wouldn't cost them anything, unless they confirmed the pin for some reason.
