Anyway, I was just wondering if anyone had any sources for pirated high grade military software because I could use me some of that!, honest to god imagine what you could do with it!

(Seriously though, am I the only person who's a bit worried about how supposed 'left wing' governments tend to engage in far more of this scary big brother style stuff than the right wing? In the UK we had Labour illegally building up a DNA database and covering the country in more cameras than they had screens to show, in the US you have Obama and his internet czar... At least the right wing are more up frount about being evil!)

In Iraq and Afghanistan the military has started using software that allows it to create fake online identities to counter enemy efforts to recruit new members, using tactics like posting fake comments on blogs.

Haha that was my main thought actually. Does make you wonder about the 'uprising' in Libya since most of what we hear in the media is coming Twitter....

Seems as though it can all be managed off a single flash stick, is this true for scrapebox as well?

This is a little old news, the US military has been busy with this for some time now. I believe they are more grey than black ops.
Officially the US military (all branches) are prohibited to target US citizens but they are free to target domestic people.
FBI and branches a like, may conduct psy ops against US citizens though.

As far as military goes, my best best would be that operations like these are managed by SAD and/or NCS.

I think the biggest problem for them is manpower. There are not exactly cheap people working at those branches. A world wide social media psy ops would require a lot of manpower. And I think that the average SAD and NCS officer has better things to do than to write blogposts and tweets

Did you read the article though? From what I could tell it actually creates its own posts dynamically using RSS feeds (not sure if I posted the right sources though, but rereading stuff I've already read is pretty low on my objectives for a saturday lol)

No I thought it was about a serviceman/woman controlling up to 10 fake accounts. And using those accounts to spread false information or propaganda. And maybe tracking some person of interest.

I don't think it is supposed to work automatically/dynamically. That would be to risky too. I can see the CIA running an autoblog with spun articles
Nobody could even tell what they would be saying haha.

Well, anyway, as far as I can tell, the articles are talking about profile creation and management software. That is nothing new in the BHW community right? I think the military needs to catch up hehe!

To be fair, it is worth pointing out that these are generally only used to post arabic blogs about how bad whoever the US is planning illegal reigime change on that week is. Spun articles are probably fine as far as they're concerned, noones actually going to read them

I only found out because the army devision in charge of rebuilding new orleans was caught red handed using it to big themselves up whenever people were saying they were doing a bad job.

Haha, I had never even thought that this kind of military software existed! After the 9,11 2001 events this does not seem like something impossible to me. The moment I saw that being blown to pieces I am afraid of those people's mentality (politicians in the White House).

I think I am going to run a Weather.com RSS widget feed, put it in an exe and sell it to the National guard as an emergency weather warning system. I can even cross reference it with census data to provide them with neighbourhood economic data so they can save money by not spending to warn poorer areas.

This technology can:

1. be used an an "accomplishment" for a failing president by rolling it out "after" the next natural disaster

2. Be used to offset the deficit by offing the data to be researched statistically by history and resold to the insurance industry.

3. Help stimulate the economy by encouraging extra jobs through a military contract for emergency weather response coordinators (the widget code, a dumbed down cell phone (for 2 way) and l'security enhanced" browser based on KIOSK FIREFOX settings, and completed with a Velcro strip and sold for $6000 each, the Velcro strips being assembled in San Diego under the immigration "work it of" "but still made in the USA" amnesty program)

I read something similar few months back...it was about creating fake testimonials sort of thing...manipulating public opinion and so on.

Let us say you hate your president for his new foreign policies or something and people are flaming him online for his bad policies...now you use BH techniques to create large number of fake profiles and post blogs/comments showing your president in good light.....thereby manipulating the public opinion.

That wouldn't be that hard to make. What they just did was include a bunch of features in one program. And a lot of regex matching.
