I have seen some pretty good results for all but one keyword that I have done via linkpushing, I'm going to wait a couple of days and see if it's a dance with that single keyword (ill be honest I am concerned about that drop but that's seo for you I guess)
The other keywords have jumped to number 1 or doubled upwards in the SERPS

I'll give a no bull shit review In a few days

edit : my "concerned" keyword has 550k UK local searches and extremely competitive

One keyword that sat at 30 jumped between 15/16 and sat at those numbers for two weeks and it has 210k local UK searches

4. Used only the competition ranking in the AdWords tool for choosing the keywords. Of which 100 were chosen with a competition of .43 to .69.

7. It is a phpBB fourm with the Black Pearl theme. Nothing else has been done to the forum. No mods are installed.

Yes this was the only method used. I used 1 keyword phrase as the base and then sorted by competition and took the first 100 keywords below a .7 - We wanted a mix of words that would be difficult all the way to easy and this was the quickest way to do that.

Nearly 2.17 million broad. I never pull exact numbers. If I rank for the broad search I will rank for the exact search. I know people say use the exact numbers but I never search with quotes. Have you ever clicked on something that looked interesting even though you were not searching for that item? My other site has a keyword that sits at #8 and #9 as there are two articles but in an exact search they are sitting at #1 and #2. I want the extra traffic from targeting broad searches.

It is a forum, no articles will be written. I put 450 initial topics and 740 posts on the forum by pulling info from Yahoo Answers. Every push will go directly to the domain. No pushes will go to interior forum categories.

You bring up something that has me curious now. I might check all my keyword ranking on the other site for exact searches. Just out of curiosity. I always check the broad rankings. If you are targeting exact numbers then you need to track on exact rankings.

I do follow your way of thinking, but I don't agree with your conclusion. Let's say that you want to rank for "web hosting" then is broad search = 823.000 and exact search = 90.500 (US)

Exact search contains people who search for the phase web hosting

Broad search contains people who search for phases where web hosting is a part of the search string. So it also count when people search for best web hosting, cheap web hosting, buy web hosting etc.

So your potential customers is only 90.500 per month for the keyword web hosting and not 823.000 - agree?

I agree - I have seen a lot of posts on bhw and on the net, where people try to identify the competition by looking into:

- how many websites have the phase "web hosting"
- how many sites have the phase web hosting in their title
- how many sites have the phase web hosting in their domain
and you can continue with inanchor ""etc.

But I really don't care about how many million websites have the word "web hosting". I only look at top 10 sites when I search for web hosting (without quotes or anything else). If I think I have a good chance to beat the sites that are on page 1, why would I care about all the 276 million other sites that contain this keyword?

No, we don't think alike at all. Searching for buy web hosting would not be a broad match to web hosting

In other words when I search for buy web hosting, I don't expect to get the site for web hosting. On the other hand, I do expect to come up with the buy web hosting site when I search web hosting. This is an exact match because web hosting is there.

Now for a broad search match I expect to come up for the following

Searching with web hosting I want to come up for

web hosting
hosting web
web email hosting
how to go about hosting a web site
hosting an internal web page

etc.... on down the line. The possibilities of a match up are limitless. That is why I go by broad numbers. I may be way out there but analytics on my other sites tell me it is working.

After reading through this again, I confused myself. It is clear to me in my head but not in my writing.

Yes if someone searches blue web hosting I want to come up but the broad numbers are more accurate in my opinion. Not that you will get a majority of the traffic from those searches, but a percentage. I look at the broad and figure 2-5% of that is what I should be able to capture or in other words click through to my web site. This is where the title and meta description come into play.

LOL. After I went back and read yours and then mine, I was confused my self. This is a tough thing to wrap your mind around one aspect let alone all of the things that come into play. Everyone has their own opinion as to what works the best. The best thing that I can say is take one little thing that you understand and add it to what you do. You will then have your own ideas and yet another opinion.

I have to give an update to the linkpush process. I just got this in an email.

The other development that you may find exciting is that all urls in our system will be blasted with Scrape Box on a monthly basis. We have teamed up with Loopline to handle the scraping of urls as well as to do the SB blasts and we know this will be a very nice improvement.

This means that YES there will be a Scrapebox blast to the properties.
