Just wondering if anyone out there is still on Usenet?
What apps and services do you use?
Do you get a usenet account, plug it into an app, find nzbs, download, extract,..?

Does anyone promote any usenet related offers/products?

I have a usenet file sharing application. Its still in beta but we launched already. I'm looking for some feedback on the app UI/functionality and maybe a few suggestions for promoting it.

I'll give upgraded versions free to a few testers so you get the full app experience.

Jr.VIPs get a free upgrade too.

I still use Usenet. For posting and reading I use Google Groups, although I receive lots of spam because of this. Currently I share files via filesonic and can't remember when was the last time I downloaded a file off the usenet. It must have been ages ago.

I use Astraweb's server which gives me full 30MB down and nzbmatrix for NZB's. I run sabnzbd and CouchPotato on my HTPC. I tell CP what movies I want and adds it to sabnzbd for me. When it's down, it will repair the file is necessary, move the file to wherever I want, renames it, and also automatically updates XBMC. CP has a FireFox plugin so whenever I go to imdb.com I can automatically add a movie from their site. There's also an App for mobile phones that will do all of this if you can the barcode of a movie.

This setup is awesome. Automation at its finest.

EDIT: You're charging people for you app? CouchPotato and sabnzbd are free, and you would have to have a much better app to get me to purchase yours over these free ones.

I only use it sometimes, mostly One-Click-Hoster like rapidshare, netload

I'm not using it for IM but for the rest it's my main source for movies, music, games, books and (non-IM) apps.
Using a server with a 900+ days retention so 98% of the time I'm looking for something, it's there...:D

The change is only for the download bandwidth. The app is free. With our app you don't have a usenet account from astraweb.

I'll send you a PM so you can try the app. We pretty much automated a lot of the steps.

Who is your provider?

What download speed do you get? :)

i use it everyd ay for pretty much all my tv programs and movies

giganews 1000 days retention as of today and i can DL at 50mbps if virgin media aint throttling it.

I don't know I had Usenet two years ago for like 3 months and I couldn't seem to find anything I couldn't find off PB or D'noid torrent sites. It wasn't worth the added monthly to me. I will admit I prolly didn't take the time to config everything correctly. Seemed a bit too technical the way to set it up. You make it as easy as setting up Ut*rrent and you may have a winner.

Bintube will basically spoil the fuck out of you... Streaming media on usenet

Usenet is great for shows you can't see in your country. Seems a bit more secure than using torrents.

As someone who travels the world; Usenet is my most valued monthly subscription. Nothing compares in speed and reliability to Usenet, when connecting from different countries. I used Giganews for many years, however two years ago I switched to Newsdemon and get the same great retention and speed for less cost (I pay $9/mo for Unlimited Bandwidth w/ SSL). The price has gone up for new customers but is still very low priced.

I highly suggest using SabNZBd+ for your reader application. It's free and integrates with your web browser, just typing in "localhost:8080" (or using a Bookmark) brings up the application interface. There are also Firefox addons that will further integrate your SabNZBd installation. For example: When you visit indexing sites such as binsearch or nzbds, it will create a NZB icon next to each listing and when clicked will automatically add the file to your download queue. Beats the paid competition blindfolded.

So is anyone interested in trying the app? Free premium accounts.

Just search in Google for Gygan. Download and install the app. PM or post your username and get a free account upgrade.

Astraweb and Binsearch with SSL connections is the most secure way to go, not even your ISP can know what is going on. Plus, I don't think that an ISP will ever throttle as long as you are utilizing SSL connections.

I also second Flurbluff regarding international content.

It filled up wіth trolls аnd spam, thеn vBulletin аnd phpbb camе аlоng аnd wе suddenly had these comfy, popular, rеlativеlу troll-free and totally spam-free discussion forums, mоst of thеm run by responsible adults. We deserted Usenet іn droves.
